BCIT Jan 2013 Applicants

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Just wanted to get something started as I will be applying for this intake. Let's get this thread going. Fill me in on who you are and why you are applying bcit's nursing program.

I was told that BCIT is the most recognized institution of all nursing schools in BC. There clinical hours which I like and it's a 3 year program. It is also the most competitive, therefore the brightest, smartest, and well rounded individuals will be there. I want to be associated with a competitive environment, makes me work harder and we can learn from each other.

I am currently at kwantlen completing my pre reqs. I have completed my 1st year english and 1st year psych. I will be taking libs 7001 and 7002, 200 level psych course and 2 other bio courses.

There were 500 people for this intake and 200 people got shortlisted!

oh my gosh

first off congrats to you guys!!! finished step one  I am very excited for you! Dont worry about the document timeline, some of you may find out later and will have different deadlines...remember? batches...

second off- If the head of the nursing department tells you that you will find out by today, why the heck would you call someone else and and question that? The admin officer probably meant that everyone will have a final answer by the first week of November.

Third-To those of you bashing the system: you aren't even technically a part of the program yet so insulting the people in charge of letting you in the door and losing your patience on a public forum, while also insulting the institution you wish to attend, is probably not the best choice. Just a thought. They are treating you with the utmost respect in fact, and if you are going to lose your mind every time you need to adjust to a schedule change, Nursing might not be your best choice.

Yes its hard to wait. Yes its frustrating not having exact dates to go on. Yes, you will have to figure some stuff out in a short period of time (I am pretty certain you will all manage just fine if you get accepted). But do you really think they are making you wait because they want you to suffer? or because they have other things going on? No. They are working HARD, trying to pick the best of the best for this program.

@iheartpurple- I totally almost lost my cookies too when I was shortlisted! :) I am happy for you. Enjoy the spend a day, be a sponge.

as for the letters of intent, (if they are required), they are able to get through them because that is all they do for a week!! they work very hard, as I have mentioned.

congrats to those who have been shortlisted and good luck to those still waiting!

SHORTLISTED!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!

Smiley65,

The head of the nursing department said he would find out on monday if we were shortlisted not tuesday so I just called to confirm when we'd here by, nothing wrong with that.. right? Lol, I mean, I was going bonkers.

Congrats to everyone and goodluck with the rest of your applications.

BulmaBriefs, if you find out about the letter of intent, can you let us know?

I'm so excited it's almost unbearable.

Of course I will, animalhandler. First thing, early tomorrow morning I will give them a call and I will ask them what we need exactly and will inform you guys asap. :)

Thank you! And congratulations to everyone :)

@bulmabriefs - I understand that you really wanted to find out, but the head of the nursing department knows way more about your status than an admissions officer. You can't be expected to know that, but try to have trust in the system...and patience. (which is something I am still working on) It is a little hectic at admissions time. Congrats on getting shortlisted and good luck with the next step. No letter of intent required. The info package should say everything that you need to submit.

@ Smiley65... If letter of intent is not required, how can I tell them that I am actually taking 2 electives for the nursing program this semester? Any thoughts? Thanks.

Thank you for your response, Smiley 65, and You're right. I guess I was really anxious lol. I almost peed myself when I found out I got shortlisted. I can't wait for all of us to be in your shoes one day:)

memegumi,:)

What I did was when I was applying for the program, I handed in an unofficial BCIT transcript and it showed which courses were in process. Maybe you can give them a call and inform them about the electives you are taking, or write them a brief letter that you're taking those electives?

If you are taking the electives at bcit, they will know and you don't need to tell them. If you are taking them somewhere else, BulmaBriefs idea about including a transcript sounds great.

Thanks BulmaBriefs and smiley65 :)
