Does Baystate Medical Center hire new grads? I am still looking for an RN position.
If anyone has experience with Baystate, do they offer different hours such as 9am-9pm or 11am-7pm vs the normal 7a-7p or other traditional 8 hr shifts. tia for any info

MickyB...it's been a few years (6 I think) since I worked for BMC...but I know they used to love new grads and in fact had some kind of I think it was extern program for nursing students to work in the summer time while on break. I am sure if you called the HR dept they could tell you. I worked for their smaller hospital and loved it there. Good luck!!
As for their shifts I do not know what they are doing now. They used to be 8 hour shifts like 7a-3, 3p-11p and 11p-7a and some floors had a nurse that worked like 11a-7p depending on census and what not to cover overflow or shift change.

Hours like this would be perfect for me. I'll have to give them a call.

Hi there :) I'm not from the Springfield area, but I did go to school at Umass Amherst and graduated this past May, and I do know that Baystate does hire new grads. I have a friend who got a job offer before we graduated in the respiratory unit after she passed boards. Good luck with the job hunt! I'm in the same boat as you...
Thanks. :) I'm going to give them a call today. What area are you looking in?
How did the call go?? I'm mostly looking in the Boston area since I live near there, and still haven't found anything. I want to start doing med/surg first since I have no idea what i want to specialize in yet. I went online and applied to a med/surg position at Whidden Memorial and Somerville Hospital.....let the waiting begin i guess....
I was only able to speak to an answering machine. I left a message. I'm not having much luck finding positions for new grad RN's. I have LPN LTC experience but that doesn't help it seems. *sigh I hope you have better luck than I've been having.
Don't worry. I definitely know how you feel. I have some experience too working as a CNA at Mt. Auburn but i quit after i graduated so i would have more time to study....guess that was a mistake because even that hospital didn't work out. Wow even having experience as an LPN you still can't find anything?? *sigh* It seems to be really difficult finding job here in MA, and I definitely can't afford to move out of state....i guess we'll keep hoping. :)

I could have a job in LTC but the pay is lousy for an RN. Plus, I went back to school for better opportunities. Ugh. Oh well, I'll do agency for now until someone gives me a chance to get some hospital experience.

Yeah that will work. I thought about doing agency...but im only a new grad. Would that work alright? Especially if I'm interested in doing med/surg??? What are some agencies around here??? Sorry for all the questions!
I am doing agency in LTC where I have the experience. I don't/wouldn't go into a hospital without any experience.
I signed up with Excel Nursing but they are limited to certain LTC facilities near me and so I have an appointment to register with Favorite Nurses.
Good luck with that!
