Baylor Pay-Is this a low offer?

Published

Hi,

I'm a nurse with 1 year, 2 months of experience and was offered $25.50/hr at Baylor Dallas for an RN job at a specialty inpatient unit. This is lower than my current employer and I think that my background in their desired speciality and certifications gave me a good competitive edge (however, I do know that I still only have 1 year of experience).

Should I have negotiated for more or is this an expected salary? This is much lower than my current job..I'm willing to take a pay cut, I just wasn't sure if this was a normal salary for 1 yr of experience and certification.

I work for the same company but in central Texas. I know the starting pay for new grads RNs was $24 and some change last year (my clinic manager showed me the pay grid that they use for RNs as I'm currently in a LVN-RN bridge program [emoji6]). Idk if they bumped it up any at all this year though. $25.50 is probably along the right lines of where you would be.

All the units pay roughly the same. What could get you more would be your certifications if they match what the unit is looking for (critical care cert for ICU, etc).

$25.50/hr sounds about right for one year of experience. Baylor Scott & White is one of the lowest-paying hospital systems in the D/FW area, so you may wish to apply elsewhere if money is an important factor to you.

By the way, I earned more than that as an LVN in back in 2009 and 2010.

The facility I work pays new grads $26.50 base

It seems low, I started working for Parkland in 2014, as a new nurse, and started at $25.98, now 2 years later I'm making $28. I think you should try and have them at least match what you currently make

I agree with commuter that BSW is one of the lower paying companies. However we do have pretty good benefits, just depends on what is more important for you (insurance, retirement, take home pay, etc). OP did you accept the position or decide to go elsewhere?

That pay rate is about right. They don't pay a lot but there are many other perks and a great work environment you get in return.

Question where did you start off as an LVN?

If this question is directed at me, I started off as an LVN in the nursing home setting in the Fort Worth area.

Not sure who this is too... I started out as a new grad in a small town nursing home making significantly more than what I make now as a clinic nurse with 5 years experience. However I have better hours and better benefits now at the clinic.

They pay new grad interns with no experience 24.25. They are paying my friend with 9 months experience 24.98 I think. BUMC is one of the lowest paying hospitals in DFW. They tend to rest on their reputation and want people who want to work there because of the name. You can def find higher pay in the area, at least $2-$3 more dollars per hour, higher diffs, and better benefits. Their education department is pretty good and they have a good charting system. Just depends what's important to you. If you've already set up a place to live, I would recommend taking the commute into consideration. Everyone here has a long commute and everyone complains about their long commute.
