Hello, CM in SC,
I would be very interested in knowing which programs you are considering.
Hello, CM in SC,I would be very interested in knowing which programs you are considering.
Hi Siri - how are you?
I'm just in the beginning stages of researching this - trying to find the program that fits my practice best. I know a few LNC's who use the good ol' manual stamp method - which seems really laborious. I am considering buying/downloading a program that prints the labels that you then have to peel off and adhere to the pages - which also sounds like alot of boring work, but I like the idea of doing that as opposed to the manual stamping.
I know there are a few programs out there that will allow you to scan the documents then reprint them using the Bates stamping, but I really don't think that's something I'd do either - especially when I look at the last box of records I picked up from the atty's office - am I really going to be able to scan and reprint 1000+ pieces of paper and reprint them with numbers? Doesn't sound any less labor intensive/time consuming than manual stamping or adhering labels.
Then there are programs that allow you to place the already copied documents into your print and the program will Bates stamp as they go through. That might be the way to go - but without a huge document printer I can see where that could be time consuming as well.
Just can't figure out which is the way to go - especially with the amount of business I'm doing - about a case every 6-10 weeks. So far the Med records haven't been too voluminous but I know the day could come. And the atty's around here seem to prefer Bates stamping - some do it themselves but it's a service I'd like to offer - and charge for - if I can.
The site I've found to be most helpful is Bates-stamp.com - they have different combinations of all these programs - I just need to make the decision and was wondering what everyone is using!:)

What is the purpose of this Bates stamping?
This is a system used to mark all documents such as PDFs. Very important in discovery process. When dealing with a huge amount of documents, Bates stamping will automatically assign a number/character unique to said document.
One can get legal software where this is automatically a part of the program. Receive the documents, stamp, and scan into file system. Saves a great deal of time doing so for one can retrieve documents quickly. You can Bates Stamp in any Adobe Acrobat - Standard or Professional.
I utilize a legal software program that includes this. I can bulk import my PDFs and automatically Bates Stamp. I am able to automatically link (in my software program with case open) to all PDF documents. And, if I have more than one PDF opened, it will ignore those already Bates Stamped. This is especially important when making a case report in the software program. I can just copy from the PDF that is automatically linked to the program and paste in the Case Facts of the report. It will automatically link complete with which page is referenced and the name of the PDF. Saves much time.
Bates Stamping is utilized in most legal firms.
what type of legal software do you use, sirI and CM in SC?
