Barrys Uni CRNA starting 2019

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hi everyone ,

I was wondering if anyone was applying for Barrys DNP starting 2019. I was gonna complete it by the end of this month after the dreaded GRE. It would be nice to get to know any input on what the school is looking for.

I am planning on applying in August. I am trying to get an ICU per diem because I last worked ICU about 6 years ago. I am taking the GRE in July, as well as CCRN. I have 2 years of Stepdown, with 1 of those working between stepdown and ICU, followed by 6.5 years of ER (travel nursing and staff RN, ranging from level 1 trauma to free-standing ERs) and I am currently working in PACU & ER. ASN gpa was 3.69 and RN-BSN gpa was 3.7-ish. I have PALS, BLS, ACLS, TNCC and will be taking the exam to be a certified medical English-Spanish translator. I think my application will be pretty well rounded, but I'm really stressed about the ICU experience not being recent. There is only 1 prn available ICU position locally and I'm not sure if they've filled it yet.

Hey I think you will be fine. As long as you can get a good reference from the ICU manager that you start that's all you need. I am finding the GRE really difficult. not sure how to conquer that mountain. what are ur resources for GRE ? The CCRN is so much easier.

I've heard the people have had really good results with Magoosh and Manhattan Prep.

I spoke with barry's director of admissions and completed applications are already being reviewed. They intend to call for interviews beginning June 2018 and schedule interviews July 2018. I can't breathe. I applied to UM, Barry and FIU and have been waiting for what seems like an eternity.

I started my application but not finished yet as I still have to finish my BSN (in June) as well as to take the GRE (also in June). Is the GRE as difficult as they say? Super nervous about it!

I have a coworker that applied and she said they look at every class you've ever taken after high school.

I spoke with the admission rep for the CRNA program and she said Gen Chemistry is fine as long as it is within the last 5 years (no intro to chemistry though).

Not taking their class, as is a grad level class for those with a chem class older than 5 years old thus the cost is 990 per credit which equals to close to 3k for the class.

This doesn't seem like a smart move if we are about to sign up for a full time, unable to work program that is going to last 3 years. I would save my money and take a chemistry class at a community college.

Hope it helps.

I am taking the GRE mid-June so I plan to submit my application then.

were you working in an ICU as an ADN? I'm finishing up my BSN in July but I am mostly monitoring this thread for future reference because I have 0 nursing experience lol From what I know, the GRE is a graduate SAT so its pretty well rounded in terms of content. Definitely requires some study time to do well because it will test us on subject maters outside of the science that most of us have become very comfortable with over time. Find yourself a well-reviewed test prep book and dive in.

Yes to working in the ICU as an ADN for the past 7 years. I'm using Magoosh to help me prep for the GRE. We'll see what happens.

Got my application fully submitted today. Nervous as heck!!

Hey thanks for that info. I appled to UM too and still waiting to hear back. I am trying finish my application soon and send it before the end of the month. Keep us posted !!!!

Does anyone know when interviews will start?
