Hello everyone,
I just applied to Barry University for their traditional Nursing program starting in January 2011. I also want to apply to Nova. Those shool are my primary choices because of the scholarship they have with Baptist hospital. Has anyone been accepted to those schools and got the scholarship? How does it work besides you having to work for them for three years? What is it like having to take classes at Baptist hospital? When you graduate, do you get to pick where you want to work? ( I want to work in the ICU because I need the experience for CNRA school ). Also, Do they tell you if you got the scholarship before they save you a spot. I have a 3.5 GPA and by the end of this semester it will go to a 3.6 or higher, plus I plan to take a few classes in the summer. I want to be a CRNA someday so if anyone can tell me any information on the BSN program with Barry or Nova, it will be greatly appreciated. Sorry for so many questions.

I got into the nova BSN program. Im currently in my 5th semester. U dont attend classes at baptist. There is a campus in kendall nova campus. Once you are done u apply where you want to work. First you have to get into the nursing program and then apply for the scholarship. Your gpa is way better then my 3.0 when I got accepted. Nova is more about the interview. My advice go for it. Baptist is not hiring nurses who they didnt give scholarships to so it is a plus. Yes is a 3 year contract but atleast u will have a job!
Thank you for replying. How is the interview process for the scholarship. What do they look for? After you graduate, can you pick your favorite place to work? also, do they pay you less after you graduate because they gave you a scholarship.
When you graduate you apply for positions that are open. Baptist has a paid program called the versant program. Basically you have a nurse work side by side with you for i think 18 weeks. is for new graduates. After that you are on your own. They pay the same rate regardless of the scholarship. I applied to Nova october 1, 2008. Had interview on November 5th. Once you get accepted into Nova they let you know about the scholarship. You apply for the scholarship once you have a spot. I interviewed for the scholarship on december 10th and got the award letter december 27th. program started january 6th i think. Scholarship is a panel interview. I read somewhere on here that Nova is no longer doing interviews. Anyways about working in ICU. after you graduate If their is positions open you can apply but generally they want atleast a year of med surg experience. They do have a residency program for critical care that starts in august they might take new grads. I will be looking into this when I graduate cause I also want to work ICU. Students who get the baptist scholarship have to attend the first semester of the program at the nova campus in Ft. lauderdale. and the program at nova is 27 long months non stop. There is a website that shows nclex passing rates for different schools. Look it up. check the rate for barry. I know nova is like 98-99% one of the highest in the state of FL. Hope this answer some of your questions.

im also applying for barry & nova i have a 3.4 im waiting to here back from both schools... I mean i would prefer going to nova but barry has alot of scholarships soooo its definetly a tough decision.
Hi there,
Did you apply yet; although I have a great GPA, I was denied from Barry because I have a W for a science class. So I am definately putting all of my eggs on Nova.
well i dont have any ws or fs but i have a c in computers & psychology ( the easiest classes) -__- .. but i submitted all the necessary paper but i really want to go to nova more than Barry. I am waiting to here back from them...they told me they are making decisions in October 2010 for the January Program. Im crossing my fingers because I really want to get in.keep me posted on your application process.
You should be fine. The do not accept any W from science classes only. Good luck.

I'd choose Nova, although I'm not certain I would take a scholly with a 3 year payback. NSU enjoys a better reputation in South Florida. Also if you choose to stay in Davie, NSU arguably has the nicest campus in the area, with a lot of amenities.
Nova has a scholarship program with Baptist hospital. They pay your full tuition and you work for them for 3 years after graduation.
