Anyone preparing for Barry starting in jan 2015?? I'm taking a chem now and preparing for the GRE. And for those that have already been accepted, any advice?? What do you think of the program??
I'm just waiting myself. I believe the next interview period is in May or June. I only had my application finalized review about 1.5 weeks ago. Been trolling this thread for a while and decided to extend my congratulations to those accepted and best wishes to those still in the pool.
My candidate stats are 3.7 and completed honors track, published thesis, CCRN-CSC-CMC, coming up on a year in CVICU (open heart), GRE was quant: 147 verbal: 158 writing: 4, some additional site specific courses, and all the other standardized things we have to have to apply.
I just interviewed April 25th. Seemed to go ok..... I think..... They made it very open, and tried to make us as comfortable as possible. The whole process was very informative. The test was ok... like everyone has said, nothing you can really "study" for. If you dont know your chem in and out you wont have any idea on about 5 of the questions. But we all talked about it during the interview and only a few thought they knew what the answer was. As for the interview itself, I was actually the last one they called, being my last name starts with a C, it was very awkward, I am never last, but they were very nice and we could all tell they went in a completely random order. I sat in front of the head of the program, another instructor and a current student. It was extremely never wracking, but I got through it.
This has been the longest two days of my life.. lol... I cannot wait to get to work this week to have something to do while I wait for the email. They said it would be anywhere from 7-10 days. I am hoping I find out good news sooner than later b/c I would love to do the head start program starting this summer!!

Sure. 3.72 cum GPA, A's in sciences, 3.5 years mixed ICU (1 year SICU, 1.5 years ICU float pool, 1 year shock/trauma ICU). GRE: 149 quant, 162 verbal, 4.5 writing. I was a supplementary instruction teacher for combined anatomy/physiology for a semester, precepted 2 nursing students in their ICU capstone. CCRN, TNCC, PALS. Some cards experience but mostly in the float pool job (it was at a big level 1 trauma center, the float pool was able to take sicker patients). PA Cath's, art lines, CRRT, no fresh hearts or vads. A lot of sepsis experience, which I think was a key.
The interview was mixed personal and clinical. Biggest thing is know your stuff, but don't be afraid to say you don't know. Be humble, honest, and convey to them that you are teachable and want to be a safe provider. That worked for me.
