I will be taking my bariatric certification exam here in a few months. Has anyone taken this test? None of my coworkers have and I want to be as prepared as possible. I have heard with other certifications that the online review sessions are costly and useless. What materials or books did you find most helpful in getting the bariatric nurse certification?
Thank you for your help ahead of time!

Hi Nurse Tracy!
I came across your post today. I am testing next week for my CBN certification. Did you test already? How was it? Myself and another co worker of mine are testing together and we are the only people in our hospital who are attempting to obtain this certification.
Hope you did well!!

nursetracy how did you do on the exam and what did you do to study for this exam. do you think it is worth taking an on-line review course or just go to the annual convention review? i would really like to take the exam in feb. but would like some direction from someone who already took the exam.
Hi kfussrn, I actually did pass the exam. I thought it was pretty hard, but my facility only does gastric bypasses and lap bands so I didn't know much about any of the other procedures. I did not use any online review courses. I had read that they hadn't helped people much in the past. It was a fairly new exam when I took it last year so I'm not sure what all has changed, but I found a lot of my questions were answered with the handbook. To study, I used one of the recommended text book readings in the handbook. I can't remember which one since it was awhile ago, but it covered everything and wasn't a hard read. The test asks questions from pre op to post op and everything in between. I mean, all I did was use online websites and the text book and I actually did a lot better than I thought I would. I'd go for it if I were you. Good luck!
