i'm thinking to move to baltimore city in few months. how safe is the city? i'm planning to rent an apt in west pratt street . i will be happy for any feedback. i've never been to baltimore city.
Owings Mills is an excellent choice because in the "New Town" section, there are a lot of relatively new apartment complexes. Nearby Pikesville has some good choices, but those apartments are older. Most of the apartments around Timonium and Cockeysville are older, too. (Of course, some of the older ones are superior to some of the newer ones.)
An advantage of Owings Mills and Pikesville is that the practically useless Baltimore Metro subway runs through there. That will get you directly to Johns Hopkins and nearby to some of the downtown hospitals. I would feel comfortable on the subway during rush hours, but I'm not so sure I would be comfortable riding during some of the odd hours that nurses commute. At least you have an option.
The best resource I've found on apartments is apartmentratings.com. You can really weed out a lot of bad choices before you even go to visit anything.
Good luck.
Baltimore gets crazier. Last week there was yet another beating on a bus and I just heard on the radio that there was a stabbing on a bus a day or two ago. So I guess the rule is to stay off the bus if you live or work in Baltimore. If Hopkins were to somehow pick up and move, Baltimore would be in big trouble.

Hi,
I like your suggestion on Timonium or Cockeysville. My boyfriend went to UMB's Pharmacy school and he was living in Anne Arundel for the majority of the time. For one semester, he lived in the school's dorm (apartment like) and it seemed safe there. However, in other surrounding neighborhoods it's definitely not quite like it. My boyfriend was mugged when he was walking in a dark alley to his friend's place.
I will be going to Towson nursing this spring and looked at an apartment last week in Cockeysville in the Padonia area and really liked it. There were tons of shops around and it felt like being on Route 40.
