Hi all! I am graduating in May '17, and I'll be moving to either Worcester, MA or Baltimore, MD, depending on my partner's school plans. Does anyone have any info about new grad residencies/fellowships or job opportunities in these areas? I've scoured the Internet with some success, but I'd love to talk with someone familiar with the programs there. I would love to start with L&D or OB nursing in any capacity, although I'm flexible.
I'd be grateful for any input! Thank you!

Hi,
I live in the northeast and am wondering if you will be graduating with a BSN? It is a really tough job market in MA as far as jobs go, especially with new grads. I have heard that UMASS Worcester does hire new grads, but I am not sure how often and I believe you need a BSN.
Good luck,
Annie

If you think Baltimrore is a chance, take a good, solid look at Johns Hopkins. They have a new grad program called SPRING, and most of their floors and ICUs spend a lot of time and effort on their new grad orientation. It is my opinion that living in Baltimore would suck -- the culture is just so different from the west coast culture we're used to. and there is litter everywhere -- but you can live outside the city. And working at Hopkins really looks good on your resume.
In Worcester, I don't know any specific hospitals. Live near pubic transportation and you can work at Man's Best Hospital, (MGH) or the House of God (Beth Israel) or The Brigham. You can take advantage of all the sports and cultural activities in Boston, the good food and the playtime opportunities. And Massachusetts has good health care.
Good luck! This sounds like fun.

Do you have to live in Worcester, or could you live closer to Boston to get more chances for work? I lived in Worcester and it really is a rough city. Housing will be more expensive getting closer to Boston, but Worcester is very expensive as well. There are two hospital systems in Worcester, and smaller hospitals in surrounding towns such as Leominster. I would contact HR and speak to them directly to get more info.
Thank you for your input. My partner will be attending UMass med school, so we would at least have to live halfway between Worcester and Boston. I am certainly willing to consider jobs in Boston. What do you mean by Worcester being "rough"? In any case, I will contact HR, as you suggested. Thanks again!
