I've been feeling pretty down lately. I'm 25 years old and just about to apply to a few RN programs. Looking over my transcripts I get a sick feeling in my stomach like there's no hope. When I was 18 my first semester I had all As , my second semester consisted of 2 Fs , 1 B, 1 C, third semester 1 F, 2 Cs, 1 B..(3 Ws thrown in there too) I had just graduated high school and wasn't very serious I guess. ? pretty awful, but I can't erase my past. *shrugs and cries* I quit school shortly after with leaving a 2.24 gpa.
I returned in spring 2015 after four years of working as a CNA and after experiencing a bit of life that smacked me in the face....lol Since then I have received all As in every single class. I Joined every study group and brought my overall gpa from a 2.24 to a 3.4.
My science gpa is a 4.0.
im just still down in the dumps feeling like I will be judged for how poorly I did when I was younger. I don't know if it will show growth to schools as a person or just see my past and throw my application in the trash. Is there anyone out there who can relate and has gone to nursing school and progressed ? Please let me know you're out there !

I can totally relate. I dropped out of college with a 2.55 cumulative. I was academically dismissed my first year at university. That year I lost 60 pounds, and my RBC count was 69% of normal. I could have slipped into a coma, and I let my failure get to me.
I ended up dropping out with a 2.55 cumulative. It sits at 3.25 now, and if my grades hold I am on pace for a 4.0 this semester, and therefore a 3.5 cum at the end of this semester, if my current grades hold, or improve.
I will have a 3.9 science GPA if my grades hold, 4.0 in the higher sciences like a and p micro, and chem.
It's so good to hear about someone who is exactly in the same position ! Congrats on bringing up it from a 2.55 to a 3.5 ! I know how hard it is to look at your old gpa from where you left off and give it your all. We can do this ! 8)
Yes we can really a 3.5 cum is good enough to make you more than competive for many nursing schools, it might not get you into all of them, but I feel a 3.5 cum is good enough for most schools. That is typically considered honors society, and if my grades hold that is the mark I will be at after this semester.
It is never to late to improve your standing. I never though I could pass these class much less ace them, yet I am on pace to ace three hard science classes microbiology, a and p one, and general chemistry in one semester, and with the extra credit in my humanities I am on pace to ace my humanities as well (albeit barely).
I am doing things I never thought myself capable of, it is an amazing feeling, revel in it while trying to stay humble.
3.4 is typically a mark cumulative that will get you into more than a few BSN programs like you said WE GOT THIS!!!. Also a 4.0 science GPA will really make you a competive candidate as the sciences tend to be the classes many struggle with.
From what you are telling me I feel like you will be just fine if you stay dedicated like you have been recently.
If you can apply to multiple schools a 3.4 will almost certainly get you into one of them.
GOOD LUCK!!!

What will the schools you're applying to look at for your applications? The program I am applying to only cares about gpa for minimum application requirements, and then in the very rare case that they need to break a tie. After that all they care about are your A&P grades, Micro, and TEAS score. So it may not matter what you're old gpa was. I know my old gpa was crap. I got put on academic suspension twice. I was young, and unwise, and unmotivated. Now that I am much older I have a better sense of myself, and what I want. I currently hold a 4.0 at my college. You can do this! Your past doesn't have to define your future.
