what do you plan to do if you don't get into your nursing program? will you wait and reapply or will you apply at another college and relocate, or will you stay at your current college and switch majors?

Specializes in no specialty! (have to graduate first!).

I got into the only school I applied at. Thank goodness. But my back up plan was to apply again to the same school the following year as well as every other school in the state. (I live in Wyoming so there are only 7 or 8 community colleges and 1 university). Also, while I was completing my pre-req's I was also taking classes for a social work degree. That way if the nursing never worked out I would have a back up degree.

I will continue to apply and broaden my application locations. I originally started out applying to schools in S. Florida, then to the entire state, and now I've found myself applying to schools in SC and looking into Tennessee and Illinois. I'm willing to relocate to get this done! God forbid I have my master's to fall back on if all else fails:sniff:, but I am trusting and believing that I'll get in one way or another!

Before I was accepted, I was taking extra Psych classes to build up enough courses for a BA while taking nsg prereqs. I would have graduated either Dec '08 or May '09. I had plans to take the GRE and apply to grad schools immediately. Glad I didn't need to use that backup plan!

I got my rejection letter today. I'm going to keep working towards getting my degree- I still have a few core courses to complete, and I would like to see a better GPA. Then I'm going to try again.

I applied to the school I wanted to go to, and was denied semester before last. Then I did everything I could to get more points for the next application period. I retook the Hesi entrance and turned an 81 into a 91. I retook Chemistry and turned a B into an A, and took the last support class I needed on the list. Then I reapplied last semester and got in. I start Aug 25.

I have heard people say that they apply to many different places, but I couldn't do that hear. All the nursing programs in the area require different support courses so it would have taken a lot longer to take all the different ones I need for the different programs. I have friends who are doing that, and are still taking pre reqs to increase their chances of getting into one of 3 programs when I am already in .

thanks ya all i won't be applying till spring for the fall09 start date but i think the closer i get to applying the more nervous i get about it especielly since they changed their admission requirements now to if you retake a course they figure both grades into your gpa. my gpa is currently 3.18 cause i got a D in a class that the teacher failed about 50% of the class in. i am retaking the class in the fall with a different teacher but not really sure how much that will help my gpa. and last spring my college decided to start requiring people to take the teas prior to that admission was solely gpa based. oh another thing those of you who were cna's before going to nursing school did you find that being a cna increased your chances of getting in?

yes this will increase your chances of getting into the nursing program. i am planning on taking a medical assisting class at a vocational school so i can show them my passion and determination. EMT or volunteering at a clinical will also help you.

my back up plan is take GE classes and work part time as a medical assistant [the more experience, the better] then reapply but also apply at other universities just in case.

Here's my plan....started prereq's in the spring of 08 w/one class...I am finishing up 5 exellerated classes for the summer....was waiting to get into RT school....got accepted on Mon....so I now will have 2 yrs of RT school....however, spring of 09, I will take statistics(not required for RT) and in the summer of 09, I will Human Growth & Developement, Comp 2, etc.....these again are not required for RT but will work towards ny Bachelors's and will help me to cross over int RN school down the road if I so choose....so here's the plan;

1- finish RT school

2- go another 6mths while working as an RT to get Cardiovascular

3- take classes to prep me for RN school if I choose to go that route down the road

4- during this process, I am earning the bigger degrees.

My plan if I don't get in, is to go to an LPN school, which is MUCH easier to get into in this area, and then bridge to RN as soon as possible. It would take me a little longer to do it this way, but then again, so would waiting to reapply!

As far as CNA helping you.

Again you need to check with whatever school you want to apply to. I have heard several people state that their school lists CNA certification as a pre req or something you can get extra points for.

My school did not list that. My neighbor, and a group of her classmates that she was taking pre reqs with decided it would help them. They went through this class, and paid money to take it and get a certified CNA. They were all ticked off when the school wouldn't even give them a blank space to put it on the application. They didn't care, and gave them no points or extra advantage at all for doing it.

So again look at the school you want to go to, and what they require. If not your just spinning your wheels and wasting time.
