Backstabbing/Gossip in Nursing School

Nursing Students Student Assist

Any advice how to deal with this? I feel like I am in highschool. It seems the more pressure that comes on, the worse it gets. I feel there is gossip behind your back all the time, even to the point to possibly talking crap about you to the clinical instructors etc.. So childish..I notice the targets are people who are more independent and maybe a bit more reserved. I don't get involved with the study groups (for exactly that reason and because it's not my study style) I am just trying to do my best and keep focused Any advice. I am close to approaching someone in the department about this, but I don't know if it would do any good.

I wish I coulds say it's much better at my school perhaps a little bit, I was actually ok during at for the most part, but of course as things went along semester after semester it got worse. Any way in my class its just one women, who rubs me the wrong way and makes snarky comments I just ignore her, she said something and the instructor said "WHAT?" She was like "nevermind" she backed down in a hurry, when she was heard. She developed a clique with a few others,... now.

It's worse in the day program as the students are much younger, the nurses in clinicals have even commented on it. I guess in nights you get more adults looking to make a change. So other than her and she in her 50's (you would have thought she would have matured by now, But NO)

Any way here is my advice, just do what I do,... Go along to get along. Say hello and goodbye, be pleasent, do your best, and know when it's over odds are you won't have to deal with them again.

If there's gossip amongst my classmates, I don't hear it. I read somewhere that the friends you make during nursing school may not necessarily be friends afterwawrds. I study much better by myself. There's only one other person in my class that I have anything to do with outside of class anyways. We're both on the Honour Roll/Dean's list and have no problem helping each other out with the material, whether it's just verifying what's on a test, getting notes from a missed class or filling in the odd blank as a result of cranial flatulance.

As a result of several negative past experiences, I keep personal information ujnder a proverbial lock and key.

Like others hae said, keep your eye on the prize. Remind yourself why you're going through nursing school and all of the chalenges it presents. You will get to your graduation.
