I got a letter in the mail today that said I was reported for minor maltreament on a background study. I have applied for jobs and a background study has never shown this. I never remember working with minors except I started ajob in pediatrics and had to quit while I was on orientation without notice and that is was 9 years ago!!!Why would this come up now?I am currently in an RN program and that is not on my bacground study with them.9 years ago and something show up now and I was never notified!.Any thoughts?

Where and why was this background check done? Make sure you investigate further. I used to live in one state but very close to another state. It was very feasable to apply for jobs in both states. The state that I lived in never had a problem with my background checks, but every time I applied for a job in the bordering state, I would come up with a "hit." Every time a nurse comes up with an initial hit, they did a further check on it. When I inquired with that state's BON, I was told that there is a nurse with my similar birthday and name who has a mark on her record and that it is a close enough match that it will ALWAYS come up when I apply for a nursing job in that state and will always have to be double checked to make sure I am NOT that person. Not sure if this helps you, but this was my experience.
Thank you. I looked and 3 other people have my same name in my state, I will call the BON tomorrow. I have been a nurse for many years and have always taken pride in my profession..

I heard on the news the other day that there is some ridiculous number of people with duplicate SSNs, like 1 in 7. Definitely don't let this go; I'm assuming if you had done something to a minor you would have been charged, thus notified! I hope you can get this cleared up!!

How in the Lord's name can this happen? Surely you all have unique reference numbers?
Keep us updated, OP, I'd love to hear how this plays out.
