background check

Hello i need some advice i am a surgical tech in new york and my job pays for me to go back to school so i decided nursing. I had got into a little situation mdw i went to vegas with some friends and i just broke up with my boyfriend of 3 yrs and he also went with his friends we were supposed to go together. Long story short he try to get me jealous and it worked of course he did it in a public place and liquor was involved and got the best if me i went up to him and smacked him. I got arrested for battery domestic violance. He didnt press charged case is still open i payed a lawyer a case is on going. Im just very nervous about being able to get into a nursing program now that this is on my hands does anyone know or can give me some advice please. Thanks much
