Back to school...what do I bring?!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

It has been more than 10 years since I last went to school, and more than 15 years since I had a science class. I am taking A&P1 in the fall to get ready to apply for an ADN program. I was shopping for my 4 kids to go back to school and realized I have NO IDEA what to get for myself! What do people bring to A&P? Will most people have laptops? Or do you take notes in old fashioned notebooks? Do you bring your textbook to class? It is an evening class so I assume many people will be non-traditional students like me. What do you wear? Its a FIVE hour class, so I assume we will have breaks for snacks.

I am suddenly getting nervous about just going to school, not to mention the actual course content. Any tips would be great!

I typically brought notebook, paper, pencils, and any other required items while taking pre-reqs. Didn't normally bring my text book unless the instruct indicated we should bring our book.

Currently in nursing school I bring: spiral note books for note taking, notebook with 3 hole-punched print outs, laptop + charger (for working on assignments on campus before/after class, access to e-books, and sometimes required for lecture), drug guide, and a lunch/snacks, and a gym bag for working out at the student gym. On clinical days I add scrubs, and clinical supplies to that list, but can leave some of my notebooks and drug guide at home.

I feel like a lot of what to bring depends on you and your learning style, the particular course, and your schedual. I hate taking notes on the compute so I still use pen and paper. Many of my classmates prefer at tablet or laptop for notes, it just depends on what you are comfortable with. Some like everything in one binder, some like multiple notebooks and divide by class. As long as you have some basic means of taking notes and keeping course material organized it you should be good for the first day, and can work out the details as you adjust and figure out how you want to approach your current course load.

I bring paper, pen, binder and textbook. So far all my classes bar the use of a laptop, but thats going to be different from school to school. My sciences were also five hours long 9 to 12 for the lecture part then 1 to 3 for the lab portion. 12 to 1 was for lunch. We also got a 10 min break every hour. The first class will be all about expectations and getting your syllabus so don't stress to much the teacher will tell you what you will need for class. Wear normal clothes no need to dress up, go for comfort.
