The course was 23 online modules through UNC. It was self paced, you have 9 months to complete it.At the end of each module there was a final exam that you needed to pass before moving on. I think you could retake the exams if you didnt make an 80% or better. The clinical component was 160 hours with a clinical preceptor on a med surg floor. I had to have immunizations current, PPD current, BLS, and malpractice insurance. Also had to purchase color coded scrubs at the hospital I precepted at There are many refresher type programs out there, so thats I would check with your BON. I would also suggest a course with a clinical component to it. I think it really beefed up my resume.
You have been out of the hospital environment for less than 5 yrs, so you may not need to do refresher, I really feel it helped me with employment, however
GOOD LUCK to you:),
I'm reviewing a medical surgical demystified self-teaching guide by Mary DiGiulio and Donna Jackson,it is really awsome and cheap it was only 24.95...there are tons of books out there specifically I like a Lippincott manual of nursing practice that now even comes in pocket size that you can carry with you to your work as a quick references and I also like a Nurse's personal Preceptor book by Lippinott Wiliams.Oh and I almost forget as far as brushing your skills there is also a very nice skils book-also pocket size called Nurses guide to Clinical Procedures by Lippinott.
In summary if I would be you I would invest in in
1.One good med-surgical reference book (pocket size
2.One good clinical procedure book (pocket or medium size)
3.Lab book
4.Drug book

Hi,
I am thinking about going back to the hospital on a med/surg floor, and I need to know if anyone has any suggestions about resources it (books, online classes) that I can use to gear my self up. I feel a bit nervous because I have been out of the hospital for about 3 yrs.
any advise is valued!
