BA/BS in Nursing as Second Degree - Chicago

Hello everyone,

I figured this forum is probably the best place to start for me.

I am looking for a bachelor's program in nursing as a second BA/BS. It can be accelerated, but does not have to be. I live in Chicago area, so anything in Chicago land will do.

I have my BA in English and a post baccalaureate degree in journalism. Also, I am working on my prereqs for associate degree in nursing at College of Dupage. That was my original plan (Associate Degree in Nursing), but I realized it would be a waste of time to pursue an associate degree, if I can have a BS/BA degree in the same or slightly longer period of time. So far, I took both A&P classes, psych 101 and am about to take math and chemistry. I also have my CNA certificate.

Any suggestions and advice are more than welcome. I am just starting to look for the programs and did not have time this morning to browse the forum - so if a similar question was resolved recently, I do apologize for repeating it and would appreciate if you can direct me to it.

I will be attending Lewis University's Accelerated BSN program starting next year. Their acceptance process was reasonable and they seemed to have an "average" amount of pre-reqs required. I looked into Olivet Nazarene but I would have had to take a lot more pre-reqs and the tuition was higher. Resurrection was too far for me to travel but as pp mentioned, they have an accelerated program, too. Chamberlain decided not to offer their accelerated program out of Addison, but they would have cost way too much anyway.

I scheduled an appointment with an advisor at Olivet Nazarene, and will be calling Lewis tomorrow to try to schedule something with them too. My only concern with Lewis is - do they count your prereqs grades into your GPA? I just realized my GPA is 2.72 (it's an international degree and that 2.72 was earned hard - I was not being lazy, trust me). Right now, my average is 4.0 (and I work full time, have a 18 month old and the subject I am taking now are much more complicated than the oves I took for my BA degree...). Do you know if Lewis will add the prereqs and then calculate the GPA or no?

Saddie - I'm not sure at what point Lewis looks at your gpa. I applied before I had taken any pre-reqs so I just used my gpa from my previous degree. Not sure if I had taken some pre-reqs if they would have been factored in.

Hi melc0305, thanks for the info. I already spoke with Nancy and the good news is that they will take my pre-reqs GPA into condieration, which will greatly help me. Nancy was super friendly and emailed me with all the info we talked about as well. Right now, Lewis seems like my best option.
