  1. Hello all, I am considering moving to Houston. I was browsing the Internet to explore the employment opportunities and am now turning to you for advice. I saw a couple of posts about lack of hiring in Houston but they seem pretty dated (2009 mostly). I also browsed jobs but it's very difficult to get a good idea on the general number of job offers. I am a new grad BSN with less than 1 year experience. My preference would be med-surge. Any advice is more than welcome.

    URGENT - Medical marijuana

this is exactly what I am not looking for - I am not looking to see if nurses can get fired or license taken if THEY use medical marijuana! I was told that nurses can lose license over ADMINISTERING medical marijuana! and I just don't see how that would be possible in a state where medical marijuana is legalized....So, I am trying to see if a nurse would be jeopardizing license or a job or personal freedom if he/she would ADMInister medical cannabis to a patient (or help with administration) in states where is it legal - because of the federal law.... I know it does not make much sense, but apparently there is a possibility. And I am just trying to investigate the possibility the best I can....

    URGENT - Medical marijuana

Hello, I am a nursing student and I wrote a paper on medical marijuana and was taken away tones of point for not saying that there is a possibility for a nurse to be taken away her license or even be arrested for administering it because it is not legal under Federal law... I wrote the paper under the assumption any nurse would know whether or not it is legal in his/her state. (it's a safe assumption to make, right?!) Additionally, as nurses - we obtain state licenses to work, not federal. I understand the legal issue is convoluted and different by state - but it is still a legal and not necessarily a nursing issue. And I thought my assumption that a nurse would know the laws of her/his state and policies of her/his agency was safe. Apparently not. Anyway, I am going to contest the grade today and I have been searching the Internet to see if a nurse could lose license over dispensing medical marijuana and I cannot find it anywhere. I want to feel confident when I go to discuss this with my teacher - so I am hoping to get some input here as well. Any and all info is more than welcome. Thank you to all who spare some time to help me out!!!!

BA/BS in Nursing as Second Degree - Chicago

Hi melc0305, thanks for the info. I already spoke with Nancy and the good news is that they will take my pre-reqs GPA into condieration, which will greatly help me. Nancy was super friendly and emailed me with all the info we talked about as well. Right now, Lewis seems like my best option.

BA/BS in Nursing as Second Degree - Chicago

I scheduled an appointment with an advisor at Olivet Nazarene, and will be calling Lewis tomorrow to try to schedule something with them too. My only concern with Lewis is - do they count your prereqs grades into your GPA? I just realized my GPA is 2.72 (it's an international degree and that 2.72 was earned hard - I was not being lazy, trust me). Right now, my average is 4.0 (and I work full time, have a 18 month old and the subject I am taking now are much more complicated than the oves I took for my BA degree...). Do you know if Lewis will add the prereqs and then calculate the GPA or no?

  8. Hello everyone, I figured this forum is probably the best place to start for me. I am looking for a bachelor's program in nursing as a second BA/BS. It can be accelerated, but does not have to be. I live in Chicago area, so anything in Chicago land will do. I have my BA in English and a post baccalaureate degree in journalism. Also, I am working on my prereqs for associate degree in nursing at College of Dupage. That was my original plan (Associate Degree in Nursing), but I realized it would be a waste of time to pursue an associate degree, if I can have a BS/BA degree in the same or slightly longer period of time. So far, I took both A&P classes, psych 101 and am about to take math and chemistry. I also have my CNA certificate. Any suggestions and advice are more than welcome. I am just starting to look for the programs and did not have time this morning to browse the forum - so if a similar question was resolved recently, I do apologize for repeating it and would appreciate if you can direct me to it. Thank you!!!
