:monkeydance: Does anyone here recommend becoming a member of AWHONN? How much is the yearly subscription? Thanks

I would recommend it~~check their site for the membership fees, they vary depending on RN, LPN, student, etc. The membership gives you subscriptions to The Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing and Nursing for Women's Health which have been very helpful to me. Also local chapter meetings for guest speakers, networking, etc.~~

Yes, I am a member. Here is the site for information. If you ask me, as professional nurses, we are somewhat obliged to belong to this professional organization, as we are held to their standards of care. So yes I recommend it. Anyhow here is the site:

I'm a member, too and I recommend it if you can. I think everyone should ideally do it, but how much you personally feel it is worth it will probably depend on what you are looking to get out of it. If you will read the journal and magazine (you get two different ones), take advantage of the speaking events, etc. you will probably like it. It will give you people to touch base with in the OB world.

I have been a member since last year and I find it to be a wealth of information since the membership offers opportunities to network with other professionals through conventions, workshops, etc. Also, it provides up to date information on standards of care that should apply to our practice.

When looking for jobs, especially in L&D, I found that nursing recruiters looked favorably upon my memberships in professional associations of interest. It shows a dedication and desire to be knowledgeable about things that could potentially influence one's practice.

I joined at the beginning of this year and I recommend it. I think Melita is right, that potential employers look this as a plus in your favor.

Also, there is a huge wealth of info that I have found since becoming a member. Well worth it. And if you can't afford the dues all at one time, I think they can deduct from your paycheck a certain amt each month. Might make it easier.
