Avoiding versed?

Published

I've been backing way off of versed for most patients over 50-55 years old. I'm finding that they wake up far more quickly and are more "clear". Other advantages too....

Anyone else?

That's interesting to hear that about Ketamine. We were actually taught in lecture that Propfol at times has been linked to erotic feelings or dreams as well. The professor moved on so quick I could barely write a note about it. lol

Maybe it's the lowering of inhibitions with these drugs that can cause you to think or feel a little "looser" than you normally would. The legal aspect is a nightmare for practice when patients are accusing you of things you didn't do. I'll make sure to not be in a situation where there isn't a witness able to speak to the situation.

For elderly I skip the midaz and use precedex 0.25 to 0.5 mg/kg. Usually split the dose in 1/2 and wait 10 minutes between.
