Average Starting rate of a BSN in Georgia

Published

Hey Guys,

So I am a Canadian nursing student, graduating in June 2017. I want to move to Atlanta, and I wanted to know the average starting rate for New grads with a BSN there. I have been seeing 22/hr but that sounds really low. In Canada the starting rate is 30/hr, but I hate the cold lol. Can anyone help me out with this?

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

What you're seeing is likely accurate. There are a lot of new grads in the area, employers can afford to keep starting rates low.

You do know it gets cold in Atlanta, right? Not Canadian-level cold, but I wouldn't consider moving to Atlanta for the climate. There are nicer, warmer spots.

Everything I was offered in Atlanta was around $25/hr plus diff which was around $4-5 for night shift.

Wellstar health system even offered a $10,000 sign on bonus for any acute care positions or a $15,000 loan repayment option for a 12 month contract. Everywhere else is a two year contract

Oh wow really the repay your loan? That's cool! Thank you guys

Atlanta area is generally around $25/hour base pay. There are a couple hospitals that pay lower as well as a couple that pay higher. Everyone I know who has done Wellstar's residency has changed jobs once their 3-4 month residency was finished, just be aware that there is a reason they're offering bonuses for new grads.

just wondering, what were their reasons for leaving so early?

Toxic coworkers and understaffing

Toxic coworkers and understaffing

I agree. I would be very careful

Which hospitals/ residencies do you suggest I apply to?

Northside, Piedmont, or Children's

Short staffing seems to be a problem everywhere though. Can take 2-5 months to get your foot in the door. $25 is about right for new grad.
