Australian requirements for third world's nurses

I know things would be much simplier if I were from the UK or USA, but since I'm not, I have to ask this...

I graduated this summer from the nursing college but haven't worked as a nurse yet (I focused on studying and preparing for english exam instead). I've just received my IELTS results and would like to apply for registration as a nurse in Australia now. But I'm concerned about whether they require prior work experience, or will they allow me to come in and go to a college for some additional education like those graduate programs that are being mentioned here quite often...

So, should I contact state's nursing board and ask them about my options or should I look for graduate's programms by myself first?

Depends on where you did your training, you will usually need to do a six month program there.

Take a look at some of the other posts on thsi forum, and there are some links provided for you.

Since the Australian system is based on competency rather than theoretical examinations then the more experience you have the better chance you will have to get registered.

Yes, thanks, I did read those... In fact I read all the relative threads posted in the last 2 years, but there are only a few from non english-speaking countries...

Do you think it would be reasonable to apply to all the boards at once, so I could raise my chances of getting positive decision in case some of them are too slow or demanding? :bugeyes:

Again, it depends on where you are from, and the training that you had.

Example, from Thailand, they need to take the IELTS series, and do a 6 month training program thru a school.

I would contact someone straight away - I know of one Australian trained Singaporean nurse who has been waiting 3 months for the registration board to process her registration. Don't forget that this time of year they are dealing with all the new grads registering too.

i graduated this summer from the nursing college but haven't worked as a nurse yet (i focused on studying and preparing for english exam instead). i've just received my ielts results and would like to apply for registration as a nurse in australia now.i think ielts is good for 2 years you need a broad band score of 7. i think the nurses board requires 2 years of post graduate experience. you may apply to do a graduate diploma or similar which would assist you. check www.nbv.org.au for victoria. nsw is www.nursegeg.nsw.gov.au also go to www.immi.gov.au for immigration regulations.
