Australian nurse wanting to move to USA for work

Published

Hello there,

I am an Aus citizen, graduated in 2007 January from Uni of Western Sydney.

I actually have a Physiotherapy degree and have chosen to do a graduate entry nursing program in Australia and have worked as an Operating room nurse since 2007 till late 2009. I then moved to corporate world in to Insurance industry.

However, my move out of nursing is only temporary due to family/financial situation (nurses are poor in Aus LOL!!). I would like to move to USA to work as an operating room nurse. But I presume that my nursing course lacks mental health and Child/maternity nursing hours required by US and Canadian boards. Can anyone who have been through this process before please message me with details of the contact person at Deakin Uni for the units i need to do. Also I plan to move to NY and have a sponsor already available to assist with visa.

Please any helpful answers would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

I suggest you contact Deakin Uni directly ma'am. May I know the average salary of nurses in Aus nowadays? :)

Astro, i am based in Sydney, here is a link for different awards in NSW for different private and public healthcare settings

http://www.nswnurses.asn.au/news/3830.html

generally it varies between $51K TO $70 K in NSW. Other states are not very different from NSW.

Hope this helps.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Probably better to get CVS done with NY BON and see what you are short in if anything before sorting anything else out
