We celebrate our FREEDOM, Blackbird, that's what.
Don't know how old you are, but there was a time when Australia was fought for, in a war ,that threatened our very way of life. The way of life, BOTH BEFORE settlement, and AFTER! So yep! I think we've got PLENTY to celebrate.
No affront taken here, Blackbird. None at all.
IMHO ... I think we have a LOT to celebrate. ALL of us! Both Black AND white Australians. THe reasons are many and varied, but I haven't time to debate that with you here and now.
I hope your Australia Day has been a HAPPY ONE! {{{Hug}}}
Cheers,
Grace
Gee, Grace, can I quote that?
I was asking what we were supposed to be celebrating
Actually, just quickly. And simply........ Perhaps part of what we celebrate is; that our magnificent country was discovered by those not born here at all. Otherwise... it wouldn't be the wonderful country is now is. Wouldn't you agree?
Did I mention skin colour? *wanders off, bemused*

happy australia day everyone!!
personally i am just glad that we won the battles at kokoda and elsewhere that stopped the "brisbane line" ever having to be the point of last defence. i am sort of grateful that the french decided that botany bay was "les miserable" opening the way for the brits. (could you imagine it - we would all be mangling the french language instead of english!!)
australia has a lot of history to be shamed of in it's relationsship to those who were not pure "anglo-saxon" but we have weathered that and i think grown from it. each day we go forward and improve the lot for everyone to truly make this a land we can all be proud of.
