Im sorry I used to live there. Have you tried Darnall?
I worked the L/D floor there through contract, and they hire alot of civilan nurses through contract or GS. I can't remember the name of the agency though. Or how about Temple? Isn't there a big seven day adventist hospital there? It is some religious affiliated hosp. anyways, but not catholic.I dont remember.

Aurora-Columbia or vice versa, is taking on new contracts, this was just posted recently, so I am going to try that out.
Kings Daughters might be the hospital affiliation you are thinking about, they are my next step, if I don't get in with Darnall.
Did u like doing civillian contract? Were you set schedule or did your shifts change periodically?
Spectrum Health was the agency that was hiring for Darnall, and actually I had an interview with DACH and it was then that I learned that Spectrum was losing their contract at the end of the fiscal year(10-31)Aurora-Columbia or vice versa, is taking on new contracts, this was just posted recently, so I am going to try that out.Kings Daughters might be the hospital affiliation you are thinking about, they are my next step, if I don't get in with Darnall.Did u like doing civillian contract? I had set shifts, I loved it. You never heard from the agency everything was through your unit, there is an officer and an nco on each unit, a charlie and a nurse who are totally responsible for scheduling ect. The guy who was my contact at the agency was *****.....something. I believe he owned the agency. Is your SO enlisted? The big drawback with agency is no benefits BUT if you have military benefits that is not really an issue. You should try to get on with Spectrum, if you do a good job they will do everything they can to keep you, even try to get you on as GS.(used to be civil service) All and All it was my all time favorite nursing job. It is the only thing I liked about Killeen and the only thing I miss.
I never thought about a GS position, mainly because I would like to have a set schedule, and not a rotating one. When I was doing clinicals at BAMC-fort sam houston's army hospital-I had spoken with some agency nurses and GS nurses.
Although the idea of being able to transfer my job sure does sound nice! SO is trying to reenlist to Germany, but that duty station will not be effective until AFTER his tour in Iraq is done. So, that gives us a year and some change.
and THANKFULLY, we did get on Post Housing, it wasn't such a long wait for us, as we have 4 children. LOL We were in housing in a matter of days!!
and you're right the drive on post is a PAIN, especially with all the check points, and then getting picked for a random inspection adds to it even more!! LOL
I'm thinking that I will hear from the new agency possibly the week after thanksgiving...I am hoping anyway.
I am glad I missed all the check points, we got out 9/08/01. so barely missed it but I had heard that it was worse, which is barely imaginable.

There are 3 hospitals in Temple, King's Daughters was mentioned, also Scott & White and the VA hospital. They are about 30 miles from Ft. Hood, and all are within about a 1-2 mile radius from each other.
If you want to see a list of what GS jobs are available at Darnall, you can look at the Civilian Personnel on Line site http://cpol.army.mil/ . There is a link there to search jobs, and you can submit an online resume also.
Scott & White has a site that lists their openings also (http://www.sw.org).
I live in Copperas Cove, and I had a hard time getting the hospitals in Austin to call me back when I told them I could not move there. Guess they thought it was too far to drive (about 60 miles).
Anyway, welcome to Ft. Hood. Good luck with the job search :)

Hi! My family and I have been stationed here at FT. Hood since March 0f 02. The job market here really is terrible. Plenty of people stuck in your situation. Anyways, here are some sites that should be of some interest to you....Take Care! And good luck in your job search:) usajobs.com and shrusa.com Usa jobs just scroll down to Killeen/temple location then it will bring up whatever jobs are available. In my experience most jobs were located in temple. Hope this helps:Santa5: Merry Christmas
