Austin Community College ADN Spring 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello everyone,

I did not see any other thread for ACC Spring 2018. Figured I would start one where we can all share our acceptance anxieties. I applied last week, I don't think I will get in first time around though :( very competitive. How do your application stats look?

In level-1 it was basically class or lab Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. On Wednesday you pick up your patient info at the hospital and then clinical is on Thursdays and Fridays. If you go to the following link, you can click on the level/campus. Then you can see the calendar for THIS semester... just to have an idea.

Oh my gosh thank you so much! That is sooo helpful! Do you have a recommendation on a place to get better scrubs? I got the ones I have for nursing skills off of amazon so I don't know of any stores around here! And quizlet saves my life so that's good to know about the ebooks. Did you have to buy a special pair of shoes? Thanks again for all the help!

I got the package without the ebook. I didn't think I'd want it. I'd never used one before. But nursing books are heavy and take up a lot of room! I ended up buying the ebook separate! It would have been cheaper to buy it with the package. Plus if you use Quizlet, you can copy and paste from the ebook.

Also, you don't have to get your scrubs from their recommended store. They had 2 choices to choose from and many people didn't care for them. (But didn't know they could go see where). Most places will give you a discount. Doesn't matter the brand/design as long as they are teal. You can buy iron on patches in the bookstore.

I went to Cedar Park Medical Scrubs. They were really helpful. She pulled every set up scrubs that they had (or could order) in teal. I was very specific about what I wanted and she put up with me. Especially when I tried on and re-tried on the same scrubs over and over. (I could decide!)

But really any place will work. I peaked into the store at the outlet and didn't care for their selection. They weren't any cheaper either!

The school recommends 2 sets of scrubs. I got 4. But really think 3 is a must. You have to wear them the day you go to the hospital to get patient info, then your 2 clinical days.

Shoes. You do have to have slip and water resistant shoes. I ended up with abeo clogs. I think they are ugly (not my thing) but they are comfy. They can be the fun colored ones either! Most people get dansco clogs. I went caravel shoes and the guy had me try several brands on.... and danscos were the worse for me. Some people love them. My feet did not! Oh speaking of feet! Get compression socks! I thought I didn't need them until I was a "real nurse" and on the floor all day. Someone in my clinical group told me to get some after I was complaining about the pain. It was a complete 360 with my socks on!

And no problem! I was so lost when I started! And lost again when I started level 2 this semester! If it wasn't for that one person I know that is a level ahead of me, I might have lost it!

Always feel free to ask away!

You do not have to wear them to class. You have to have scrubs for lab. I wear mine to class if I have lab or if I'm going to the hospital that day. Some people change. But I'm not trying to double my laundry load!
