Austin ACC - Should I be bummed about a B?

Published

I'm a Mom of 3 returning to school to pursue my ASN-RN degree through Austin Community College (ACC) in Austin.

I have a fair number of the pre and co-requisites completed thanks to previous college course work but am in the midst of completing my science coursework.

Question for all you who have been there or are currently going through the uncertainty of pre-nursing -

Should I be bummed about a "B" in a science pre-req?

I had told myself that I would get all "A's" in my pre-reqs, realizing in part that competition for the limited class sizes is fierce. But now I'm faced with a course that I will likely be taking home a "B" in and it's really made me doubt myself and my ability to succeed with the bumpy road that lies ahead.

I guess in large part I'm looking for reassurances that a "B" in a challenging course or a GPA between 3.5 and 4.0 will not keep me from being accepted into ACC's nursing program - realizing, of course, that the HESI is still ahead.

Thanks!

B's are not bad trust me I did all my prereqs with b and b+.I only recieved some a's in the co-reqs.I feel you have a chance because im in upstate nyc and im sure that it is more competive in Nyc since its more people with limited spots.Just apply everywhere :)

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm a bit limited in my options in applying elsewhere because I have to take account my hubby and 3 kiddos and the financial implications for all of us if we were to move - which is why I'm worried about grades and what they mean in terms of admission into the ACC program.

I wouldn't worry too much about a single B. The other thing you can do to help your points is to have all your co-reqs done (or as many as possible) when you apply. I have applied for the Fall semester and waiting to hear is agonizing. But I've already decided that if I don't get in for Fall, I will re-apply for Spring and I will definately get in because I will have more than enough points for my ranking (because I will have all my co-reqs done.)
