Hi, are there any Aussie RNs who have gone to work in the US. How long did the registration process take? Experience with CGFNS? Was your undergrad education deficient in any areas (OB/Gyn, paeds, psych) and how did you make up the theory/clinical hours? How was NCLEX exam - harder or easier than you expected? Are you enjoying it working in the US?
Thanks!
Check out the sticky thread in international forum called "A primer for those wishing to work in US" which has all the info. CES is the credentials evaluation report done by CGFNS.
I'd be surprised if you can't get a job at a nursing home, I had one even before I started my degree, and all the way through.
I'm just checking out the deakin units and they are now $950. It is going to cost me a small fortune to get over to USA :) Oh well it will be worth it I'm sure. I just have to start saving now. I don't think I can do those units until I have graduated and am registered. I think I would also like to do a venupuncture (sp?) course and a cannula insertion course as those things aren't included in my b.nursing.
Hi Michelle123
Otago Polytechnic university in NZ offers these courses as well they cost around $650 AUD ($731NZ). It is done via long distance learning, you ofcourse have to organise your own clinical and pay Liability Insurance. You don't have to write 2500 word essays, just a workbook to complete. PM me if you need further help.

Would be worth checking out with Christine Smith at Deakin if you can do it pre-registration.
You don't need IV cannulation or venepuncture for registration, although you usually get to do these at the hospital once you start work.
When you graduate it would be worth applying for the CES report and wait and see - the course may end up being called equivalent.
