Hi, everyone, Im an Ausi RN and wants to work in the US as RN. Can I just convert my license to US RN? Does Australia and US have a mutual agreement on this? Or, will I still take the NCLEX exam? Thanks much and hear from all of you soon...

You have to meet state requirements and pass NCLEX. Some Australian nurses have posted issues with transcripts due to no or little hours on transcripts in Obstetrics and Paeds. US nurses are general trained and have hours covered in Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult. I see you trained in the Philippines so may not have an issues unless trying for Vermont and CA who are currently denying people due to cases not being concurrent. Having an Australian license makes no difference except you will be required to have Australian verify your license with which ever state you apply to
Thank you Silverdragon102...

Hi,
I'm in Australia too and also looking to move to the US. If you trained in Australia as far as I can tell you need to have you uni degree assessed by CGFNS and have them send everything to the state nursing board that you want to apply to, then the board will tell you what you're missing out on. I think most Oz nurses don't have enough paeds and obstetric theory and clinical hours but if you look at Deakin University in Melbourne they offer individual units in both areas that you can take by distant education. If the board accepts this then they will allow you to set the NCLEX which can be done in Sydney. I've heard a lot of people having trouble trying to get social security numbers which some boards need to even apply but you can't get unless you have residences in the USA so it's a bit of a catch 22. I'm hoping because I have a post grad dip in Midwifery and another in peri operative nursing which had a big paeds component that I won't have to do any extra study. Good luck!
