August Graduation... GN Program?

Published

So I've been researching which hospitals in my area offer GN Programs, as I am about to start my last semester in nursing school. However it seems as though GN Programs begin in Dec/Jan or May/June. I graduate in August, and have only found one hospital that offers an internship that begins in Aug/Sep... but they only want BSNs, and I'll be graduating with an ADN.

My question is... what exactly should I do? Do I wait until Dec/Jan to find a job, or start applying when I graduate in hopes that they accept me without any experience. If that's the case... will they train me properly? And is it even possible to get a regular RN position w/o experience?!?

I have so much anxiety about finding a job when I graduate and I hear all these horror stories about new grads not finding a job for months!!! Ahhhh. Ok just needed to get that off my chest. Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Know people..from ur preceptors, and anyone that has the potential to help you in finding a job

Specializes in Urgent Care NP, Emergency Nursing, Camp Nursing.

Also, places will hire new nurses that have other means of training them, such as preceptorship programs. Once you get an interview with an employer, you can ask them what kinds of training program they have for new grads.

Yes, I have definitely been networking at my clinicals and I think it may help me. I've made some really strong relationships with some of the nurses (espeically in the area I want to work). I plan on talking to them about getting a job there after graduation, and hopefully they can lead me in the right direction. The only problem, is that hopsital is almost an hour away from where I live. There are a couple hospitals that are much closer to home that I would rather work at.

I've got a question, & it may sound silly. But when I'm applying for jobs... can I just send my resume to the unit/hospital of my choice in hopes that they need somebody. Or is it common knowledge that you only apply to the job openings you see on their website/job search engine?
