  1. This is all very great information, as I have been looking for a job for almost 3 months now. I really didn't want to go into a hospital and "bug" anybody with my new-grad self... but let me tell you it has come that time! I'm really just not that kind of a person... to search out people and bother them with my resume, I'm just kinda shy :-/ But thats their job right!!!!! So what I would like to know is.... when I go to the hospital, where exactly do I go & who do I want to talk to? HR or The Nurse Recruiter? Sorry if this is a silly question but I'm new at this! This is the first time I've had to REALLY look for a job! Thanks for all of y'alls help
  2. I believe it is still 19$ an hour. Does that seem extremely low to anybody else? From where I'm from we start at 25 or 26. I've been to very rural areas who start at 22 or 23!!! 19 is just.... wow. Does anybody know shift diff/weekends?
  3. Thank you all very much for your information. I made it back safely from my voyage to South Georgia This is what I found: Albany was not as bad as I had imagined!!!! Yes, I did see some bad areas, and some "gangs" walking around... but there were also some very nice areas! I could definitely see myself living there :) I didn't get to voyage out into the neighboring 'hoods but I'm sure if I do end up moving there, I would find a house a little outside of Albany. I thought everyone was very nice also. There was definitely that 'southern comfort' feeling, most of the places we went. Now for Phoebe: I loved it! My interview went great, the ladies that interviewed me were SO VERY nice!!!! AHHHH I just want this job so bad. I didn't tour the hospital or anything, but from what I saw, & heard, it definitely is the state-of-the-art hospital for South Georgia. I can't think of anything else right now, but if I do I'll let y'all know :)
  4. That's quite ok :) I really appreciate the info that you have given me!!!
  5. I'm pretty sure the position would be at Phoebe in Albany. But I'll make sure that I find out for sure, thanks Also, about the Texas thing. Texas is a GREAT place to be. I've lived here for 5 years now and I absolutely love it! However, it is a tough time for new-graduates, especially Associate degree new-grads, in the Houston area. There has been a high influx of nurses moving here from out of state because of the economy... and there are a LOT of nursing schools here producing lots of new grad nurses begging for jobs. Hospitals are getting hundreds of applicants for their new grad programs, and only accepting around 30 of them. That's why I'm applying all over the U.S. Even if I did get a job here, which I probably would...... eventually... It would probably not be in the area that I REALLY want! Although I've never been to Albany, GA it IS my dream job & I'm willing to give it a chance :) & my Dad lives pretty close as well... So that's a plus!!!
  6. Hahaha! You are too funny!!! Thank you though, really... any information is helpful! From what I've learned online, it does look like there is a lot of crime, and that's the only thing that is kind of bothering me. I did find Lee County to be a nice place, and probably where I would look for a house if I do end up getting and accepting the job. I start my venture down there next week, & I'll be sure to let you know how my experience was. Thank you again for your information :)
  7. Hello all you Georgia members! I need some help. I'm a new grad (ADN) from Texas and had my first (telephone) interview this morning with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. They called me back a few hours later & wanted to know if I'd fly in for an interview in 2 1/2 weeks. Of course I said yes, because it's my DREAM JOB: NICU/Peds :) And it's a new-grad position... PERFECT! However, I've been looking online for a while now and I'm having a hard time getting some of my questions answered from wiki & such So I was wondering if any of you from around this area could help me out!!! *How much $ does a New-Grad RN make in South Georgia, or specifically Phoebe Putney (Hourly or salary)? *What is the Albany area like? Are there nice family places to live? *Have you, or do you work @ Phoebe? Do you like it? Are the staff and managers nice? Can't wait to hear some of your answers!!!
  8. Does St. Joseph hire ADNs? I will definitely try there!
  9. That's really great advice, thank you very much :)
  10. Yes! And I've been in the NICU several times. They really like me in there (or that's the vibe I get). The only thing is... they don't hire techs & they don't use volunteers. Its also almost an hour from my house, which is why it isn't my top choice of hospitals to work at, but I would totally do it if I got the opportunity. I plan on asking them what I could do or who I could talk to about getting hired there after graduation.
  11. Hello envied NICU nurses!!! I'm a nursing student, about to graduate in August. My dream, passion, goal... is to work in the nicu someday. I know it is a difficult place to get into, ESPECIALLY as a new grad. But I'm going to try my hardest to get in there as soon as I pass my NCLEX. I was just wondering if there were any hospitals in the Houston and surrounding areas... that used cuddlers, volunteers, or nurse techs in their nicu. I've called a couple hospitals and 1 said they don't use volunteers or techs, and the other said they only use volunteers but will not have an opening for years possibly. I really want to get started in a nicu now so that when I graduate I have a chance of getting an RN position in a NICU. Any leads or advice is so greatly appreciated :)
  12. Do any of y'all know anywhere in the houston area that uses cuddlers, volunteers, or tech's in their nicu's? I am so passionate about working in the nicu! I graduate in a few months & would love to get in there right now to start soaking up some knowledge. I've called a couple hospitals, 1 said they don't use techs or volunteers & the other said they only use volunteers but that the waiting list was too long to even be put on it!
  13. Yes, I have definitely been networking at my clinicals and I think it may help me. I've made some really strong relationships with some of the nurses (espeically in the area I want to work). I plan on talking to them about getting a job there after graduation, and hopefully they can lead me in the right direction. The only problem, is that hopsital is almost an hour away from where I live. There are a couple hospitals that are much closer to home that I would rather work at. I've got a question, & it may sound silly. But when I'm applying for jobs... can I just send my resume to the unit/hospital of my choice in hopes that they need somebody. Or is it common knowledge that you only apply to the job openings you see on their website/job search engine?
  14. So I've been researching which hospitals in my area offer GN Programs, as I am about to start my last semester in nursing school. However it seems as though GN Programs begin in Dec/Jan or May/June. I graduate in August, and have only found one hospital that offers an internship that begins in Aug/Sep... but they only want BSNs, and I'll be graduating with an ADN. My question is... what exactly should I do? Do I wait until Dec/Jan to find a job, or start applying when I graduate in hopes that they accept me without any experience. If that's the case... will they train me properly? And is it even possible to get a regular RN position w/o experience?!? I have so much anxiety about finding a job when I graduate and I hear all these horror stories about new grads not finding a job for months!!! Ahhhh. Ok just needed to get that off my chest. Any advice is greatly appreciated :)
  15. I haven't thought about Kingwood but that is a great suggestion! I am currently in an ADN program. However I'll be working on my BSN soon after... and evenutally want to be a NNP. Since I'll be looking for a position with only an ADN under my belt, I know that takes me out of the running for anything downtown :-/ and even some over here in North Houston as well. Thanks for the well wishes! If I can't find anything, I'll be content doing something else... maybe L&D or even ICU/IMCU... knowing that one day I WILL get into NICU. I just can't go down without a fight lol.
