Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker on allnurses for years, and finally am finishing up school to move forward for my Associates at Broward. Unfortunately, they have totally thrown a monkey wrench in the pre-req requirements, and now I'm going to have to wait until Jan 2015 possibly to get into that program!!!!! I have all pre res done except for the new math, CHM and new Micro pre-req. This is devastating. I'm wondering though, is it possible to take the Micro and Lab in the summer and somehow slip in for the August 2014 program, or am i bananas?

not really.. it's like $20 smt for a top and about the same for the pants... Just to let you guys know, yesterday when I went to North campus they gave me a book list that costs $1778 for the program and they told me they have a starter kit for $685.00 that includes book, uniform, and a bag...I think it's expensive...

The $1778 is for the books needed for the entire 18 months of the program?

That's what I was wondering too. I think that has to bee the entire program because I think that I heard in the past that its about 500.00 per semester.

$500 per semester would be a steal considering the price of books. The microbiology book was about $180 and it doesn't include the manual.. Just so you guys can see where I am getting.

Yes, books are expensive but 1778 per semester would have been crazy. haha...

You completed micro last semester?

I did. They say it is better to complete it before the nursing program rather than trying to squeeze it in during the nursing program.

I'm going to take Micro when we get that semester off from the program, it's doable and lots of people do it. And as far as Financial aid, they give you an amount you can spend in there every year. I dont know if that amount goes up for nursing students but i sure hope so, other wise im in trouble lol

Yeah, I took micro last semester. It would be very tough to take micro while in the program. As far as books, I am just hoping they will be affordable.

What? Really? The bookstore is closing at South and Barnes and Nobel is buying it. ..I wonder if they are buying all of them and changing uniforms distribution. I wish I would have seen this yesterday! :I would have bought some extra pants. Thanks for sharing

are the uniforms expensive at the bookstore?

The polos are $27, scrub tops $25, scrub bottoms $20. With 40% off I ended up saving $60 or a little more.

I ended up spending about 1100 for my books the first semester. We Needed a lot of books. .. But there aren't many left to buy of the list after the first semester.
