Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker on allnurses for years, and finally am finishing up school to move forward for my Associates at Broward. Unfortunately, they have totally thrown a monkey wrench in the pre-req requirements, and now I'm going to have to wait until Jan 2015 possibly to get into that program!!!!! I have all pre res done except for the new math, CHM and new Micro pre-req. This is devastating. I'm wondering though, is it possible to take the Micro and Lab in the summer and somehow slip in for the August 2014 program, or am i bananas?

Of those 33 people, everyone did not necessarily "fail". Some people withdrawal because at the half way mark they are afraid they won't pass, so they rather withdrawal than fail. Second, some people did not continue on to process 2 because they did not pass process 1 lab. Those people cannot advance until they pass both lecture & lab. Also people have different factors, like some people work full time or even part time. I would strongly advise you not to work... If you have to work, do part time. I do NOT see how it can be possible to work full time while in the program unless you can study while your at work. & then others just did not do well. All in all, there are many reasons people to do not pass and continue in to process 2.

Just to give some pointers:

Work: if you can avoid working while in school... Do it!!! This program requires too much studying & practice!

Before you start: buy the Perry & Potter Fundamentals of Nursing book and begin to read! Lol. Our first exam was on chapters 27,28,29,30, & maybe 38,39.. Don't remember exactly. Although that's on the the first exam, if you get the book early enough I would suggest reading Unit 3 ch.15-20. Just read for an understanding of the nursing process and how to think like a nurse (ADPIE). Don't study it or anything lol. Then a few days before class start reading the chapters that are a assigned like 27, 28

- let everyone know your not available for the next 18months unless you call them lol

when you begin:

- Try your best to read before lecture so that lecture just builds on what you have read & reinforces it. I personally read every single page in the chapters that way I didn't miss anything & I had a full understanding.

- Find a method that works for you, it was trial and error for me

- know information in boxes, it's in a box for a reason lol. (But still know everything) :banhappy:

- DO PRACTICE QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't stress the enough! You HAVE to do practice questions. The questions and the end of the chapter are not going to cut it! Do those too ,just to make sure you have an understanding.. But you have to buy a supplemental question book. You NEED TO GET "Fundamentals Success" by Nungent. And do all the practice questions that correlate with the chapters for your exam & read/understand the rationales that go with it. The questions will give you a feel for the exam, will test your strengths and weakness so you know what to focus on & the rationales will give you a better understanding of the material. I also bought the Saunders NCLEX review book, it's helpful but I think I will need it most when we begin specialties.. I've used it a couple times tho. DO QUESTIONS!!!! practice makes perfect.

- Try to get a good score on your 1st exam so that you are not struggling in the end or having to make the decision to withdrawal half-way!

You can't make a decision based on other people. Each campus has it's ups and downs. Choose the one closest to you as you will be driving there early and clinicals are closer to that campus. We have to catch the shuttle at regional by 6am for clinicals for South starting at 630 so if you are coming from way North you will have to leave very early to get there at that time. Same for each campus. I would hate to be far and having to be in your seat at 7am or whatever time and never being allowed to be late. Each campus is what you make of it. Our class didn't have that failure rate. .. Not even close. We lost like 9 or less and not all failed. I heard the lpn group list only a couple. That's pretty good. .. And they are doing about the same material.

I know... That's why South was not an option for me but since I just finished my core course I just got my acceptance today and I have to take what is available. Which is only South Campus. I really want to start in August but I know the program is going to be difficult enough without adding the additional stress of living far from the campus. :unsure:

Thank you so much! I am trying not to read other people's negative comments but it is very difficult especially because if you search other nursing schools in the area on here they do not have the same issue.

I am willing to study from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep at night!! haha. But I am still scare that will still not be enough. I think this is another reason why I wanted to start in August because I want to dive in already instead of building up the anxiety!

I have not ever been to the South Campus... I may go check it out to at least see if I like the atmosphere.

I will be attending south. I love South Campus! All of my friends are in the program there and they said it's tough but after the first semester you know what is expected and will feel a bit more relieved.

So just to clarify, central students don't need to dress in scrubs or polos next week? I really hope not cause I didn't get a chance to buy the scrubs yet. I have the polo though...

I would but I can only take whats left. I applied late. they only have seats available for south. the campus is 25 mins away according to my gps. do you think that's too far to travel? I really do not want to wait 4 months to start. :-(

I live close to North, but I had issues registering for my classes. By the time they resolved them, all the classes were filled, so I registered for South. Some of the classes I registered for said web enhance. I received an email today requesting me to confirm my acknowledgement as an online student. Has anyone who registered for any web enhanced class gotten this email? Also, when is the orientation for South because I am yet to receive any notice on that.

yayyy! I have company. I thought I was the only person live from north to go to south. I haven't registered yet so I am not sure about the web enhanced class.

Littleukno, don't feel too bad I'm in the same boat. I registered late and was stuck with south campus. I live north and much closer to north campus but I'm going to sacrifice and make the very best of the program. Where do you live?
