ATTENTION 30 unit option RN's. Help me.

Published

Ok, so I have been working as a LVN for 3 months now at CDCR (CA dept of Corrections and Rehabilitation) and im ready to move on and get my RN. I have decided to go with the 30 unit option route and have pretty much studied up on all the in's and outs of this route; such as

I cant go back and change my license later if I want to continue my education.

Also, my RN license will state that im a 30 unit option RN.

Its only valid in California.

Now my question is, how will employers look at me being a 30 unit option nurse?

Will I get denied employment to some hospitals because of my license?

Can you guys tell me your experiences with this 30 unit option route?

thanks

any advise will help...

I know that some jobs will specifically state "Associate's Degree in Nursing required." Because of that, you will not be elligible for employment at their facility.

Honestly, the only extra classes you would typically need is English, a humanities, an art, a PE and a social science depending on the school...that's one maybe two more semesters of college. I would look around at the different colleges and see how much more work it is, it really may be worth your time to consider it.

Most employers have no idea what your education level is. They only care about your license being clear. The employers that have degree requirements will make it clear in the job posting or the evaluation process so that you will know not to apply. Keep in mind that you will have a difficult time finding a school that will accommodate you with the 30 unit option. Most, if not all, schools that entertain this option at all, state clearly that these students only gain admission on a "space available" basis. And when is there going to be space available in a nursing program?
