Attendance?!?!?

I have now taken over doing all the attendance for my school due to COVID.  Is anyone else doing attendance as well?  If so, how are you handling the attendance for students who are quarantined, but are participating virtually in their lessons while they are out??

I am heavily involved with attendance this year due to COVID and the unclear sick-calls/calls with no reason for absence/no call absences.

We have a Google form the teachers fill out for each classroom which has a column for each scenario: Remote Present, In-Person Present, Remote Absent, In-Person Absent, Remote Tardy, In-Person Tardy. If the student is to be online that day (in our Hybrid model), and they no-show their meet, they are marked "Remote Absent".

If they disappear after 30 minutes and don't return, the teacher will inform the front office and the student will accrue an absence. The teachers have to pay much closer attention to the remote students, because if they aren't "online" for at least 2 hours and 45 minutes, they are considered absent, but the kiddo could leave and come back a bunch, too. Very complicated.

Highly involved with attendance here too. The secretaries and I work together.

Basically, I look at our attendance list that the teachers/office inputs. If there is an unverified absence, I add them to my list. Between the main secretary and I, we call or email the families letting them know they need to clear the absence. We get a lot of vague messages (my child is out because they don't feel well, or my kid has a cold), we try and get ahold of the family to find out what symptoms are present and then go from there.

We just started accepting remote learning as being in class, but only if the student is on a covid related isolation/quarantine. The district office gave us a special code. If a teacher doesn't offer zoom links to class (only a couple do, kids are here 5 days a week, half days), and a student is out due to covid stuff, then we put together an independent contract for them. Once they turn in the work, they get credit for being here the days they were out.

Hi! Yes, we are very involved in attendance tracking this year. Thankfully our administration in the three different division is also involved and keep up with who is virtual out of choice and who is virtual due to quarantine. There's some over lap of course, but we'll contact parents if there's no reason for an absence or there's an obvious illness or if the student just decides on a whim to be virtual for the day. It's A LOT to keep up with -who's coming and who's going for what reason!
