Attend school for ADN or Accept New Job offer

Published

Hi all,

I have been an LPN for a year. I have been working as a Hospice nurse for that time, working with Hospice I am PRN and have every other weekend on call duties. The PRN allows me to attend school but doesn't allow for a steady pay check in which I need as I have 4 children. I have completed my first term in the ADN program, failing 2 classes and re taking them. I also took a break this summer and am scheduled to go back in the fall.

Yesterday I was offered a Job working for The Little Clinic inside Kroger. It is good pay and benefits, but I would work every other weekend and 3 12 hour shifts a week. Therefore I would be working every weekend (I would not be quitting Hospice) and I may not be able to attend church on Sunday's. So here's my question, should I not accept this job and stay in school, or should I accept this job?

If you want to be an RN, return to school. However, you should evaluate the reasons for failing two courses and formulate a plan to ensure you never fail again.

If you want the clinic job that pays well, accept the offer, especially if you know in your heart that school is more than you can handle at this time in your life.

Good luck with your choice.
