Atkin's Diet patients

Published

Anyone had any Atkin's Diet patients? We had a guy with astronomical triglycerides (3,000, I think) He ended up in the ICU for a few days with pancreatitis. Was wondering if anyone else had seen the same pattern?

I know a litle about Adkins, I know a little about what ketosis is, but why is it hard on your kidneys?.............I personally don't have the will power for it, My grandma tried it and had several spell of dizziness with in the first couple of days and said she thought she was gonna pass out.

We need to remember that the atkins is incredibly strict and that not all low carb lifestyles are created equal. In this day and age of diabetes we all do well in limiting our "bad" carbs. Frankly, in this country we eat way to many carbs!! Oh and as for the outdated food pyramid...thats as much a joke as the atkins diet! Protein don't have to be greasy hamburgers. I personally try not to eat any carbs that don't have a good amount of fiber as well. Which means I eat plenty of veggies, beans, legumes...etc. As for proteins, I do mostly chicken with an occasional steak here and there. I also do cheese and eggs. I'm fine and my cholesterol in every way is in tip-top shape. Plus i always have lots of energy and i don't suffer from the mid-day drag that people suffer from when consuming unhealthy carbs.
