ATI "Nurse in a box"

I apologize if there is another place to post about textbooks, but I couldn't find it (if there is, please let me know).

I was wondering if anyone here had to buy this? If you did, how was it? I just finished my first day of orientation, and I was stunned by the amount I had to pay for my first semester . The nurse in the box alone is $450....it hurts. :bluecry1: We need 10 books for the first semester (estimated $900, but I'm a pro at finding cheaper prices), uniforms, ati pharamacology ($50), lab fee ($75)....etc. I wasn't too surprised about anything else, but that nurse in the box price was too much. That price is insane! I wish we weren't required to buy it, but it looks like we have no choice :sniff:.

We were told about the Nurse In a Box the first week of class last year. That was a bit of a PAIN. The fees were put on our accounts though so at least it came out of financial aid instead of out of pocket. The fee included all of the books and all of the tests we will have to take. I'm not a huge fan of them because they don't have an index in the back to find topics but otherwise it's a good resource. I know our instructors use NCLEX, ATI, and other resources for test questions so it never hurt to be able to look at those books for the topics that were going to be on a test. Good luck!

We are provided with all of our ATI books. Not really sure why though I am not complaining what so ever. I was fortunate this semester with my regular books too and only paid $100 for my OB book with study guide and pharmacoloy book with guide. Bless the higher level student that didn't mind parting with them!

We get an ATI book handed out on the first day of most classes (exception: Med-Surg is just one subject, so we re-use the original Med-Surg ATI book for Med-Surg II and Med-Surg III). However, the cost of the book and computer programs is built into our "lab fee" each semester. Originally the lab fee was ~$300/class, but now it has gone up to almost ~600/class. This is in addition to tuition and required textbooks.

Interestingly, our school just dropped ATI -- we'll start using Kaplan next semester.
