I have to educate my asthma patients, what are the points I should focus on?

What are your thoughts so far?

What do you find in your med/surg or peds text about what asthma patients need to know? We're happy to clear up any misconceptions or confusion about what you learn, but we won't fill in your outline for you.

(Getting the idea that we don't do your homework for you? :) )

I didn't ask anyone to do my homework(this is not graded btw), I just asked the POINTS I should focus on. Thank you anyway :)

So...it is homework? (graded or not matters only to you, not me)

Either way, you have the question--you go first. What do you think should be included in the education? What does the patient need to know?

Yes well.....Google can help you and so can your books. Think about what would be important.

If you had a new diagnosis what would you want to know? We are happy to help but we need to see what your research has taught you.

This is NOT the forum to ask someone to do your homework for you. When asking for assistance with an assignment, please show what you have done first.

Synonym: self-management plan or programme; 'action plan' is often used in preference as it is perceived as less daunting to patients and more engaging to children, parents and carers

Asthma is a chronic condition where optimal control is obtained by stepping treatment up or down in line with clinical signs and symptoms.

Ideally, patients should be empowered with previous advice from health professionals to:

  • Recognise worsening asthma.
  • Be able to self-initiate therapeutic adjustments.
  • Know how and when to access the medical system.

There is good evidence for the efficacy of action plans
