Assisted living CNA BORED

Published

This is my 1st cna giving care job but I've worked in ltc and hospitals before and I find myself extremely bored at assisted living. I have about 11 residents and it's a crazy amount of down time. It's almost like after 10 am there is nothing to do but checking up on ppl the rest of the day. I like the company and the pay is ok the benefits look awesome but has anyone experienced this? I hate not having anything to do and this seems weird that's it's so laid back

I can understand how down time could get boring, I'm the same way! I hope to get a hospital position, a friend of mine is a CNA at a hospital and he is always moving! What department did you work in at hospital? honestly I would take more advantage of downtime (easy money:up:)if possible and study if you intend to further your medical career, and also good benefits is always a plus! 11 residents is not very many I think most people would get bored haha

I have been working in dietary for years which is surprisingly useful as they plan to have me in the dining room helping sometime in the future (which I'm not very excited about seeing that I was trying to get away from the kitchen lol but I won't complain). I won't be starting my nursing program for another 3 months so there's nothing to study and my coworkers aren't so friendly they're very clique like... Idk how to "look/stay busy" for 3 hours while the higher ups are walkin around... Lol when I was in dietary I STAYED busy haha this is a hard adjustment

How i felt during my short time in assisted living. If you really want a challenge try out skilled nursing or memory care, won't be so bored then ;)

Down time??? I work in a skilled nursing facility/Rehab and there is NO downtime. My 12 hour shifts are nothing but run, run, run and I rarely get a break.

I worked as a CNA in home care and was very bored! I tried to make the most of it by talking and "visiting" with the people I was taking care of but what usually happened was they took a nap or zoned out in front of the t.v! I finally couldn't take it anymore and I went to a skilled nursing facility where I am always busy and I'm much happier!

I think the answer may be to try to get into skilled then.. My coworkers are always complaining of being so busy and overworked while I am dying of boredom lol
