i have to say that i think some of these questions are a little vague. is it possible that they relate to some reading you were required to have done? here are some links to websites that have information on ostomies.

yes, "d" is correct. mast cells rupture and release histamine which occurs during an asthma attack. by preventing this release of the histamine, the asthma attack is abated.

(a) it will resemble the lining of the mouth

answer: a) is correct

a stoma that starts to turn dark red and progresses to dusky blue or purplish indicates a compromised blood supply.

as colostomy teaching progresses, the nurse should stress that the colostomy lacks:

(a) movement

(b) autonomy

(d) coordination

answer : c) is correct

don't have an answer for this.

both c and d are possible answers. prunes will increase the number and frequency of stools. onions may increase odor and gas. licorice can change the color of the stools. my feeling is that the answer is "c - prunes" since they are a natural laxative. while you want to teach the patient to avoid foods that create excessive gas in the gi tract the foods that can cause this can be unique for each person. however, you want to start bowel training as soon as possible after the surgery. prunes are a natural laxative as well as a source of gas. the likelihood of the patient becoming constipated and needing prunes is really unlikely. my mother had a colostomy and i used to get in arguments with her about her constantly eating prunes all the time and then crabbing about her colostomy bag always draining (well, no kidding, if you're eating prunes every day!) maybe i'm just prejudiced because of what i went through with my mother and her prunes.
