I was trying to decide where I should obtain my RN- BSN. Aspen University was my initial choice and although this article is about the pre-licensure program.I'm still nervous in regards to the RN to BSN. So this was initially my first choice in school but now I'm considering GCU. Thoughts? Would you still go to Aspen?

Hi

I Was also very concerned about the investigation. I did a lot of research on my own, and I spoke to the enrollment advisor about the investigation and my feelings on it. They had no problem answering any of my questions. After considering many different schools I still decided to go with Aspen for my RN to BSN. Ultimately I decided that the investigation was for the pre licensure program and investigating their NCLEX pass rates. An entirely different program than what I wanted. I would not recommend Aspen for their pre-licensure program but I don’t see any problem with their RN to BSN program. Ultimately this school provided me with the most flexibility , the least prerequisites , and the best tuition of every school I looked into. Do I think Aspen is the best possible school you can go to… Absolutely not. But it works for my life and gets me the bachelors degree that I need for my hospital. I am finishing my enrollment process and will be starting classes this Summer ? I hope that you find a school that works for you! Just do your research and don’t just listen to negative reviews.

Thank you , yeah I love the price of the Aspen university program and seems more flexible.  How does your employer view aspen? Does it matter to them?

Actually my employer is who recommended Aspen. They have a partnership with them. I work for a magnet hospital and we are required to get out our BSN within a certain amount of time. I know many other nurses who are doing their masters with them as well. I did look into but they now require a clinical component and are no longer 100% online. Chamberlain seemed like a good school too but way too expensive in comparison to Aspen and wanted me to do so many pre reqs.. I’m nervous about starting school again and I know it will be a lot of paper writing (I suck at APA) but I’m gonna give it a shot !! I hope to be ready to start after the Fourth of July. I’ll keep you posted on how it is !

Doesn't aspen have a clinical component too though? Because you still have to do the community hours

Nope. As long as you have a valid nursing license you can take the RN to BSN program. It’s 100% online.

Hahaha what ???? How the heck would you get that , from any of the information I posted LOL. I responded to your comment about my life and what I’m doing because you asked a question. Would you rather me tell you something negative LOL ?

The following link outlines the problems with Aspen...problems with the integrity of Aspen....what they write in the Student Handbook or curriculum descriptions, what they write in the syllabi.... versus what is happening in reality. Be sure to scroll down to read the specifics.

It is worth a read. I do not have a dog in this fight but I have been a strong student advocate for quality education in ANY program. I would not however trust the word (entirely) of someone who is paid by and dependent on employment at Aspen University.

I can only speak on behalf of myself and  the co workers I have in the program. We work at a magnet hospital and they use Aspen , among others,  for continued education. So far we have not had any issues with the RN-BSN program. The flexibility , cost and experience with professors and advisors so far has been great. Their investigation into their pre licensure program is concerning and I would never recommend that while their is a pending investigation. Like I said , there are absolutely better schools then Aspen, this is just works for me and my experience so far is positive. I say go with your gut, if something is throwing you a red flag then simply move on to something else. What works for some just might not work for others.

The bottom line is that the financial impact of not admitting new students into the 'entry to practice' programs can devastate the tuition-funded nursing department.

I appreciate your comments and view since you are in the program and know others in the program. Wishing you all the best in this and future academic endeavors.

My concern is what if I earn my BSN then the school closes? Would I still be recognized as a BSN nurse?
