Hi everyone,I am currently a nursing student working on my ASN. I am graduating in May 2011 and will be working for the VA hospital for about 3 years (that's the terms of my contract). I am a civilian and after my contract is up I would loooove to work as maybe an Army nurse or maybe even for the Navy. Is it possible to go in as a Nurse for the military active duty and go straight to work as a nurse. How does/would that scenario work? Any input is appreciated.
You would need your BSN to go active duty with any branch of the military. I am not sure what you are referring to about going in as a nurse and going straight to work as a nurse. In any branch of the military when you go in as a nurse you have to go through a medical officers initial training course. Then you would goto to your duty station where you complete inprocessing/orientation, and after your off orientation you would then be a staff nurse.
If you go on active duty you will have 3 plus years as a RN you could ask for one of the career courses in the Army. Not sure about the other services thou. You can look into the Army Reserves once you complete your ASN and get a commission in the reserves an change over to active once you complete your BSN.
Hello, I am in the same boat, you need to contact an Amed recruiter... an army recruiter who specializes in medical... if you go to a regular recruiter they will either reffer you to one or screw you and try to get you to enlist. If you have your diploma, you can join the reserves and get into their strap program to pay for your BSN, because you have to have your BS to be active duty officer, you will complete your BSN, and go to OBLC... officer basic, and then go active duty and roll over your commitment from reserves to sctive duty :) good luck and message me if you need more info. :) I do not know anything about Navy.
