Asking experienced nurses opinion about moving right out nursing school

Published

Ok, So my husband is possibly getting a job in Denver, Co. I am graduating nursing school (associate) May 6th, 2011. I am really at a loss here. I do not know how that transition would go. I know that out West, they are very keen on education. Some of the hospitals I looked up will not even hire an associate degree nurse. I know here, Nashville-TN, that it will take a couple of months, maybe even longer, to find a job. There are a lot of budget issues here right now. So not only do I not know if that is a good idea due to no experience, but I also do not even know if Colorado would be too excepting of an associate degree nurse. I know that my school is a favored school to hire nurses from here, but Denver does not know that. I'm feeling out of my league on understanding right now. EEK! Please help me!!

It certainly is very troublesome when you are worried about getting a Nursing Job After all your hard work. There are hospitals who are hiring AD Nurses but now they way the economy is there is a temporary but real abundance of nurses right now. This will change. There are a large number of older experienced nurses re-entering the work force because of lay offs and Nurses that went to real estate now returning to nursing. You and Graduates of several years ago are now competing for fewer and fewer Jobs. Hospitals now expect that you have all the tools ACLS PALS NRP IV Therapy Certification and even a Fire Card in Southern California. Hospitals need nurses who are flexible and have all the tools ready to work. One Strategy that was new to me is entering the hospital employment office with a certification as a Anesthesthesia Technician it worked for some of my classmates. It is a easy transition as a nurse who already has Anatomy Physiology and a minimal hospital background. Unlike nursing There is a huge demand for Anesthesia Technicians the training programs don't take very long and the tuition and time affordable. The key here is to get working in the hospital. Nurses who do not have a Job after 1 year are virtually unhireable. Jeff RN Hired

Its hard to say but I say start applying now to those hospitals in Denver to see how well your application moves. Some jobs like to hire others out of state. Its a tough market. There is never any way to predict job markets in various areas. Good Luck!

op: since you do not have a choice, apply. ask around the co board. you might find out which hospitals prefer what and you may meet a hiring manager!!! sometimes hospitals that prefer bsns will hire adns. it depends on the hiring manager and the adn being hired. so put your best foot forward and look at all of the hospitals in the area and within commuting distance. gl!
