I know a lot of nurses may perfer a hospital setting, and it does provide " a well rounded experience". Although, I would take a clinic job, in a heart beat. Thats my dream job, I just like the office enviroment more.
I think you should apply everywhere in this economy & be very thankful if you can land a job somewhere. & When you do get a job, you can always keep your eyes open for something better.
I'm a new grad who's first job is in an office setting. I love it, and don't feel I'm making a poor career move. I've learned quite a bit. The pace is great... I'm not overwhelmed (as many poster's who started on a floor seem to be), but I'm not bored. Predictable hours, set schedule, and a good work environment.
Not the same skill set as I'd be using in the hospital, but it is a good skill set. What has been one of my biggest challenges so far is telephone triaging, it's really hard to assess a patient when you can't see them in order to make appropriate suggestions (send a note to the doctor, put patient on schedule for today, send patient to ER). I also get lots of opportunities for patient education and patient advocacy.
When I was first looking for a job quite honestly, this wasn't my first choice, but was my first job offer. Now I am so glad I took the job. And you know what... I'm working with several people who started out at a hospital and were miserable so they left and came to the office setting to work. At this point I have no desire to work in the hospital.
I started as an LPN in an office and I loved it, as an RN I have found it much harder to find a job in an office but I would go back in a minute! I currently work in a super busy med/surg unit in a large teaching hospital and to be honest I would go back to an office because I like the relationships that you can build with the clients and I really miss being able to meet people when they aren't experiencing a major life crisis unlike where I am now. If you enjoy the office environment, I sat more power to you.

I personally enjoy the environment more and gave an honest answer. Although I think a hospital would give me a more well-rounded experience, I want to get my foot in wherever I can! Is it just unheard of that a new graduate would want to start in an office rather than on the floor? Is my application there a bad idea?
