Arrested as a juvenile but fingerprinted as an adult ! Now I have a issue

Published

Hi. I just wanted to know if anyone could give me any insight on my current issue. I’ve received a conditional acceptance into the LPN program of my choice, the conditions are that I complete all the admissions requirements. As soon as I received the list of requirements I began working on them. I’m just about done with everything but my FBI fingerprint check records came back last night and I was shocked to see that I actually have an arrest record!! I have never been cuffed or put in jail in my life! The record is actually from something that happed when I was 17!

I didn’t have the best childhood and would often cut school and go to the mall or wherever. Senior year me and a friend got cut shop lifting at Macy’s in the mall. I had attempted to steal a “Wonder Bar” ( how embarrassing:-/ ) and she had some other things. She got really sassy with the mall security and police officers so they gave us a hard time, but eventually let us go.A year later I got a strange call from some type of bounty hunter! He threatened that I may go to jail and I agreed to meet up with him downtown. I was 18 by now and he delivered me to the magistrates courthouse. They gave me some type of fine and ordered me to get fingerprinted, so I did. After that I’ve never heard anything about it.

The record doesn’t show as a “misdemeanor” or “felony” but there’s a charge of “retail theft”. My state criminal records always come back as “no record”. I’m so distraught now. I’m praying this will not stop me from becoming a LPN, later a RN and possibly continuing my education after that. It took me so long to get to the point in life where I’m sure about what I want to do. I’m so passionate about becoming a Nurse, and I feel like my dreams are falling apart!!

What's a wonder bar?

My guess is that you were charged as an adult. Even if you are a juvenile at the time of the crime, you can still be charged as an adult.

If I were to guess...I would think that if you paid a fine and got fingerprinted, you probably plead guilty. You may have agreed to a deal where if you stayed out of trouble for a period of time, the conviction “disappears.” Hence the reason you have a clean record at the state level.

The rub is that in that sort of scenario it “disappears” only from the public. The BON may still be able to see it (depends on the state). You need to find out what exactly happened and then you can figure out what to do next.

PS I think OP meant Wonder Bra.

Great take Beekee...

I can see the attraction of a Wonder Bra, myself.

Lol yes it was a wonder bra.... And no I wasn’t charged as an adult it’s actually just an arrest record since I was finger printed. My state police background check shows no criminal record and I still reside in the same state that this incident took place. The thing about fingerprints is they never go and I’ve come to find out that having a fingerprint in the database doesn’t necessarily mean you have a criminal record so Im thanking god because there’s nothing on my criminal record, no misdemeanor, felony’s, infractions or anything else. I finished all of my other entrance requirements and my classes start on 4/15!!!!
