Army OBLC packing list question

Published

If someone who has recently completed OBLC, or someone who is there now could answer this I would really appreciate it :)

For active duty the packing list includes the Army blue uniform. Do I need to show up with that uniform, or can I wait until I get to OBLC to buy it? Uniform costs are killing me and I would like to put off buying that one until I need it (assuming we don't wear that uniform until close to the end).

How many sets of ACU's would you recommend?

Thanks

Forwaters... I'm not a nurse at this point... however - I was in the army and can say that the dress uniform generally requires a bit of tailoring and such. I would recommend being able to have it - as you never know what sizes won't be available, how much tailoring is needed, and it will reduce the amount of 'extra stuff' you are balancing. I will be interested to see what peeps say about this.

OBC usually will specify how many ACU sets you would need - off the whim I would say that 4 sets is a good amount to have. :)

well i went aug of 07 and although the list of required clothing they provided included blues (and as active duty officer you are required to have them), we neither were asked to wear blues or class A's or show them. They expect you to buy them and do not want you to wait until you need them like yesterday but actually tell everyone they should wait until they get to their first duty station just because of SA being a training post. I have been in for just over a year now and have not worn blues or A's once. We graduated oblc in acu's.

as for acu's i would at least have 2 but if you can afford it. get 4 sets of acu's. it just makes it easier for wash and wear. but really if you need to, as long as you are changing your undergarments, the acu can be worn more than one day (even in the heat of SA).

there will be people that will show up to oblc with no uniforms. They will not even have acu's. so don't sweat it right now. we had people who had to wear civilian clothes for the first few days. so if you show up with acu's and some pts you will be fine, even ahead of the game.

Good info - that is dependent on the OBC... IOBC we conducted dining-in events and wore our dress garb. It was mandatory. So if that is school specific for nurse OBC...then that would be good advice~

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have another question regarding uniforms though. Does the Army still use the hospital whites? The Air Force dropped that uniform several years ago and I'm wondering if the Army did as well.

Thanks

[color=olive]hello,

[color=olive]i am currently at oblc. you will purchase your blues here at fsh. you will be taken to clothing and sales on day 2, so if you do not have items...do not worry you can buy them here.

[color=olive]i would recommend buying three sets of acus. you might want to purchase your required pt items online as they are out of many of the sizes as they are being sent to iraq first. our advisor is aware of it so we are allowed to wear civ clothing.

[color=olive]ask anything else that you might like. if i cannot answer i will see if i can get an answer for you. good luck!!

They will issue you hospital whites here at FSH. Also, if you are going down to FSH during OCT then you will be required to wear it as you will be serving dinner to the troops...or so I have been told. I will post what we actually do later.

Forgot to mention...You graduate in ACUs if that helps.

Tradition for officers to serve thanksgiving to soldiers at the dfac... did it during my OBC and in the 'real army' as well.

Thanks for the info and I hope OBLC goes well for you GetnPhd. I wanted to be there for the Oct class as well... but that didn't quite work out :(

I was kind of hoping the army had scrapped the hospital whites. Oh well, guess I'll just have to work on not spilling things on myself :)

Let us know how things go for you.

GetnPhD,

Thanks for letting us know what to pack. How are the living conditions there? I was reading a blog by a nurse who stated that she had a roommate. I thought it was single dorm style rooms? I assume having shower shoes would be a good idea? Would you recommend a car?
