Hello all,

I am currently enrolled in a bsn program and am interested in army nursing. My question is can one join the army as a nursing student, or is that something that is done only through ROTC? My college is a private all women's school that does not offer ROTC so am looking for other options.

Thank you for any insights you can offer:)

:w00t:Hello and good luck to you with your career goals with the BSN and also on being a ARMY Nurse. I am pretty sure that you can join as a student. Then after you finish your BSN you would be active duty. Also if you wanted to go the reserve route they have the strap program that pays you a stipend for up to 24 months (1,250.00) per month to finish your degree. I do believe that in order to reach the rank of Captain you would need your BSN. But since you are already getting this, it shouldn't be a problem.

Hopefully your school is accredited by the NLN etc.. This is a requirement for them to help with education. Please check out Allnurses home page. The in the news part there

is an article about different incentives that they are offering due to the shortage of RN's, especially BSN's.. Hope that this helps.. As I have read over and over again make sure that you talk to a AMMeD recruiter not a regular enlisted one.. TAKE CARE

I joined through the army nurse canidate program during my jr year and got a montly stipend during while I was finishing my degree then I recieved my commission after graduation and went to officer basic trainning in aug right along with my ROTC counterparts...I am now at my first duty station in HI!!! What you need to do is find a healthcare recruiter...not just a regular one (you may have to call one from another city) I went to school near fargo, ND and my recruiter was located in Minneapolis. you can ask about the ANCP or any other direct commissioning programs they know of and they should get you squared away :) good luck!

Thank you for your replies,

Now question #2. I have been doing simple google searches and am having a hard time finding an Amedd recruiter in my area. I moved from southern California to Connecticut for the college where the nursing program is offered, so am not completely familiar with this area, but searched NY, Boston, and New England and haven't had much luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction in terms of finding an amedd recruiter in my area?

I did speak to the regular recruiter briefly and he gave me another phone # to call, which I never got a return call from.

Thank you:)

Hello "Hoplinger,"

Hope I'm not too late. There is an Health Care Recruiter in Newburgh, NY. The number I received from a recent SNA Convention is: (845) 565-2935. Hope this helps!
