  1. Thank you for your replies. The college first program does not apply to me because I am prior service Coast Guard (4yrs) At least that is what the recruiter explained to me. I have two years left of nursing school, and one semester until I start the core nursing curriculum which is when I could apply to AMEDD.
  2. Hi Everyone, I have posted before and am still gathering info. I am not quite far enough in my program to do AMEDD and I was thinking of joining reserves as enlisted while finishing nursing school. My question is about changing from enlisted to officer one I receive my BSN. Does anyone have feedback on that process?? Thank you.
  3. Thanks again Just Cause, I did speak with the recruiter and I do qualify it that is the route that I choose to go. My appt with Amedd recruiter is Tues at 10am. Hop
  4. Just Cause, Thank you for the information. I did go to goarmy.com before posting here, and the chat function is closed until Monday. I will go to a local office or call the recruiter that I previously spoke with and see what the requirements are. Thanks again, Shannon
  5. Hi All, I read on the internet that prior service people go to WTC instead of BCT. Is this true and what is the difference? I am prior service Coast Guard, did my 4 years, honorably dischared in Jan 1995. Thank much for any information,
  6. Hi Everyone, Thank you for all of your replies. I have not signed up for the reserves yet (only gathering info at this point) so I do not have a ship off date, and I live in CT so I assume that BCT will be somewhere here on the east coast. The recruiter told me that basic was not as hard as it used to be...sort of a kinder gentler approach to prevent people dropping out I suppose, and she was a bit disappointed with some of the recruits that she put in who came back almost the same as when they left. I am in no way looking for an easier option or experience, I just find this puzzling. Does anyone have any feedback on that?? also, what is the gas chamber all about...do you sit in there with a mask on, are you protected? As far as MOS, she said I was qualified for everything because of my ASVAB score, but I haven't decided yet. Also, part of the reason for joining now was to have a part time job where I could still go to school full time and earn money while accruing time in the army. Seems like a win win to me. The recruiter also said that since I am starting my 3rd year of nursing school, that the army would be unlikely to deploy me because they need nurses and want people to finish their nursing programs. Again, any feedback is appreciated. Thank you, Hoplinger
  7. Just Cause, Thank you for your reply. I do not have my degree yet and that is why I would be going through regular basic training instead of OBC. I would love to hear your experience of regular basic. Thanks
  8. Hello All, I am currently in nursing school finishing my BSN and would like to join the reserves. I just spoke with a recruiter and I will have to go through regular basic to join now, so most likely during the summer when I am on a break and will have 9 weeks off. My question is, has anyone gone through regular basic recently that can offer any of their experiences? My hobby is distance running, so I am not worried about stamina or the physical aspects, but would like to have some sense of what I am in for. Thanks everyone. I appreciate any feedback
  9. Hello All, I am in nursing school currently, working on finishing my BSN. I was thinking of joining the army reserves while in school as a way to pay for some of the schooling and start as an army nurse. Does anyone have experience about joining the reserves while in school? Thank you
  10. Thank you for your replies, Now question #2. I have been doing simple google searches and am having a hard time finding an Amedd recruiter in my area. I moved from southern California to Connecticut for the college where the nursing program is offered, so am not completely familiar with this area, but searched NY, Boston, and New England and haven't had much luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction in terms of finding an amedd recruiter in my area? I did speak to the regular recruiter briefly and he gave me another phone # to call, which I never got a return call from. Thank you:)
  11. Hello all, I am currently enrolled in a bsn program and am interested in army nursing. My question is can one join the army as a nursing student, or is that something that is done only through ROTC? My college is a private all women's school that does not offer ROTC so am looking for other options. Thank you for any insights you can offer:)
  12. Has anyone out there gone through, or currently going through the AECP to get their nursing education? I have been promised this program if I sign up and would just like some info from someone who has some experience with the program Thank you :)
